It genuienly is a special car. Really relaxed and comfy when you want it to be but put it into sport mode and it goes ballistic. I’ve never been in anything this quick and it amazing for a family saloon.

Not cheap to buy or run but I’m certainly glad I got it and ticked it off the list

It is stunning, that colour really suits it....

(although I have to say the white and black one I have just seen at work is stunning too)

Yeah did think about white, but had a few white cars now and the previous 540i was white too so fancied something different. IMHO the SMB colour is a decent M colour…!!

Yeah, we had an old 6GC, and for a car of that length the rear seat legroom was woeful. As I have two rapidly growing kids we grew out of it very quickly, hence the switch to the X6 M for me.

How are you finding the scale of the thing?

That's what's always put me off the 5's.

You get used to them pretty quick. I don't find mine(G30) any trickier than my F31. I'm currently in the outer hebrides on Barra where all the roads are single track, no issues whatsoever.

If you're in a tight car park with hardly any free spaces then you notice both the length and the width, but that's a rare occasion for me.

Well the M5 has gone….a few weeks ago actually!

Such an immense car but truth be told I found it far too much for our roads as you would be up to law breaking speeds within secs. That's not the cars fault, I just think to have something like the m5 and make the most of it you need to track it, but that's not really my thing. Also found the car quite heavy, far heavier than the 540i before it which made it a bit cumbersome at times imho.

Don't regret buying the car for a minute but decision to get rid and not really loose anything after almost 10 months is a good enough reason to move it one before it lost any considerable value.

I got a Tesla model 3 LR as comp car so still wanted something petrol based which sounds decent……so……back to an S5 (same as my last one, so this pic isn’t of the latest one but exact same colour)

M5 does look stunning however.
Clearly enjoy the S5 enough to get another one.

That was a short M adventure, but at least you got to scratch that itch.
I think I would reach the same conclusion about an M car; there is nowhere to exploit the power/handling that you are paying a premium for.
A tune on a non-M car can increase the fun factor for little money, while retaining the comfort and practicality.

It's mental that you lost no money (well played) but you've brought back the sheer horror of me losing 26k in 12 months when I had one...I need a drink.

That’s almost what I wrote after 11 months with mine - although my “not losing much” was a bit of an abbreviation for “compared to most or what I expected”....

And I went back to an Audi but at least I got a different body shape and badge

I am glad I did tick the dream car box, if for no other reason than it stops me craving an M3 Touring in the next 12 months....

Wow that is a lot…..I lost £2k which in the grand scheme of owning an M car it’s nothing (in my opinion of course!!

They are amazing cars but just can’t justify having one sat on the drive hardly being used (3k miles since July 21) and no doubt will shed a load of value soon’ish in my opinion when the 2nd hand car market levels itself out again!!

Yep the S5 is a decent all rounder imho. Interior build quality not up to the new bmw levels but decent enough I guess.

What a stunning car that is/was.

Is it a new S5 with the diesel you've replaced it with?

If I didn't already have the 440i I'd be seriously looking at owning an M5 for 6 months or so.

But I'd have to lose the 440i to afford it, and I absolutely adore it, and would just be looking for another one once the M5 would be gone. So yeah, as much as I drool over the M5, it will have to wait until they're significantly older and cheaper (to buy, at least...).

It’s a 67 plate S5 so the petrol version. For the life of me I have no idea why Audi have gone Diesel for the S range cars, absolutely bonkers and makes no sense.

The M5 really is an awesome machine but just think it’s abilities are largely wasted on our roads. You can’t exploit more than 50% of its performance 90% of the time and therefore it becomes less enjoyable. Really is a great and I don’t regret ticking it off my list, but glad I moved it on before they start losing £k’s when the 2nd hand car markets levels out.

Something to do with the fleet averages I imagine

I've not been on here in a long time!

Thinking of jumping into an F90 from my C63s.

Retail wise the cars would be roughly worth the same but it's probably going to cost me 5-6k to change.

Any thoughts? Am I mad?

Lovely car them M5's, but I found the same issues. Its a weapon, Super car quick (especially a mapped one) but a boring, heavy one in most other areas.

It cocoons you in speed, and its only when you find you have to get a 2 tonne car to stop and get around a corner, that you realize its probably to fast in a straight line, to big and to much weight for our roads.

I also think an M5 should now stand out like all the others M cars do, but it still looks like a 530 with some different wheels and bumpers. I know it was supposed to be like that from the beginning, an ultimate Q car so to speak, but that ships sailed now and its all about bigger and harder RS6 stylee !

The Audi's are great allrounders though, so I understand you going back to one!
