The state of the roads in the UK
The roads at the moment are in a shocking state.
Pot holes everywhere. I have fallen victim of said pot holes, as my nearside front rim has a slight ding on the inside causing a small hole to appear in the tyre sidewall. Luckily this is on my winter wheels, so I’ve swapped over to the summer wheels now.

Just returned from a three day trip around the Lake District , roads were bad but nothing compared to the ones around Glasgow.
Woeful LED street lighting , horrendous roads and the alloys + tyres stand no chance. K |

Even the major roads are affected. Had to dodge some massive holes on the A1 between Black Cat roundabout and Buckden. Made me wince when I was hitting them with the Merc’s 20” alloys.

Thank heavens for the borough-wide speed limit of 20mph in my neck of the woods. Softens the blow when you hit a ****ing pothole every fifty yards 🥴

If you take the time to report them, they will get done, just report you nearly had an accident when someone oncoming swerved and nearly hit you trying to avoid the pot hole.
To beat the system people need to be bothered to report them rather than just moaning about them. |

I have noticed if specific potholes are posted on social media (twatbook being the most popular) they are then 'repaired' pretty quickly.
May be a coincidence, but doubt it. |

I'd love to say the roads are better here, but it would be a lie. During a recent run in Arizona there was a point when traffic in the slow lane was running with the nearside wheels on the shoulder and the offside wheels on the high point between the ruts. It was the only way to run over 50 mph and not bend something. |

Not my experience. I worked regularly in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for years and travel there regularly nowadays on holiday. Their main roads and motorways are a lot better than ours. Better built and better maintained. I'm not a fan of Belgium's concrete road sections, however.

Hit one the other day, B road, pouring rain loads of spray from lorry in front despite me being well back, lorry coming other way, no where to go....
Ouch! It caught the front one as well although it's not quite as bad as the rear. |

I'm on 245/35/19s, front and rear, so it's only a matter of time. The only thing in their favour... they're not run flats!

This country is such a mass of contradictions - the sixth largest economy in the world, capable of devising and delivering vast and complex infrastructure projects such as the Elizabeth Line aka Crossrail, the largest of its type in Europe throughout its multi-decade implementation, and yet we can't sort our f***ing roads out!? I know there's central gov vs local council funding issues involved here but the bottom line is, it's inexcusable. It's the tip of a very large iceberg, of course, and I could go on, but I won't... 🥴
