Nice mod.
Just did mine and when I saw the clips on the back, I was like oh great...

Took 20 mins overall, it was the first time the trim was removed so it was... tight, in a good way...

Too bad the ambient light are not visible during the day light

I have Y-cable for the NO cupholder LED method (aka footwell light method) for sale if anyone is interested. Decided not to pursue the project as I did not like the look of the gloss black trim.

Hey guys so i was attempting to install the radio led trim. While removing the radio panels i disconnected the 3 black wires pictured below. I managed to plug them back in, but now i get no power to the AC unit. Im guessing these were power wires and perhaps i did not plug them back in correctly? Any info or ideas would be helpful.

Ive bought the LCI Radio Trim and Y-Cable and proceeded to install it. But I found that the Trim only shows the Classic Lighting, but not the Modern Lighting. I was hoping for both since I would like the option to go back and forth.

I dont have the lighting package "563" but have the LED above the cup holder and the door pillar lighting. Both of which can go both colors. (My car is a May '13 Build)

Has anyone had this issue? Maybe something went wrong during the install?
Maybe thats the only option I get?

If you can switch between both colors, the trim should also do so, if wired correctly.
My guess is the chinese adapter is not wired correctly.

That's correct. I bought a Chinese adaptor also as people trying to sell this thing for £20-25 on ebay is a joke lol.

I noticed straight away the wiring was wrong way round on one of the female connectors. Just match it to the diagram from OP and it's good to go.

Dante do you know if there is a source of energy where, without light cuphold and light footwell, we can connect to have only amber light?
I don't care about having the color switch...maybe from the radio or emergency lights area?
I would love to have that amber led on

Now I bought the Y Cable. I didn't make it but I can imagine that once wires have been crimped there is no going back?

Like If there was a wiring error I couldn't just open up the ends and move wires around and crimp again?

UPDATE:

The cable wiring has two wires in the wrong place. Good call.
Just uncrimped/opened one end of the Y connectors and switched two wires around.

Thanks Y'all

Y cable

Hi Dante, hello everyone! After reading the first and then all the pages of this thread, I knew I had to do this mod. Ordered the trim, now i just need a Y cable and some time. Dante, if you're still making them, can you please PM a price and details about purchasing a cable?

Very happy I found this forum, lots of great people here ready to help eachother. Thanks to Dante and everyone who gave feedback on their install, makes it a lot easier for beginers like myself to do this mod.

(I posted this in the UK section of the forum, however this section may be of more expertise)

Tried to retrofit the LCI climate control panel with ambient lighting the other night, using a Y cable adapter to the footwell lights (My car doesn't have a cupholder LED). However once wired up the footwell lights will not turn off and permanently stay on, even when the doors are closed and engine is on. Not sure why they are doing this. When I unplug the Y cable (to the footwell lights) they return back to normal, automatically turning off when the doors are closed. There has to be some issue with the harness I bought, however as I'm not that great with electronics and wiring I'm not too sure where the issue lies.

The footwell lights just permanently stay on, regardless if the dipped beam/parking lights are on (which is when the rest of the ambient lights are on), along with the climate panel light which also stays on. The climate panel should be off when the footwell lights are off and should only turn on when the footwell ambient lights are on along with the rest of the ambient lighting in the car, when the parking lights/dipped beam are on. I'm just unsure where the wiring issue is

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link to the cable I bought

As an update in case anyone else has this issue, I simply cut the white wire and the cable worked fine and functioned as it should. Odd and I'm not sure why it worked but it did.

Just did this mod and for those of you finding the light is much brighter than the rest of the ambient lighting, you can cut the red and black wires on the Y cable (The one branching to the radio bezel obviously) and experiment with some 150 ohm resistors in series to dim them out... You should only need 1 or 2 to get it to match the rest of the car. Once you get the look you want, solder them in and shrink tube.

Never experienced this so far with this mod. Did you use the original BMW LCI bezel? Did you use a Y-cable for the Cupholder LED?

Ya know, maybe not... I got it from eBay based on an installation link on youtube:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Illuminated...72.m2749.l2649

I did see a few people mention in other forums that the light was brighter than the rest of the ambients, but maybe it's a knockoff? And yes I did use the Y cable and added the cupholder LED (I made the footwell cable, the cupholder LED wasnt in mine).

Ok, thanks for clearing this up.
So yes, the part is a knock off. The original part has the same brightness as the other ambient lighting and thus doesn't need adjustment.
