Seems like there is a misconnection. Check your pin assignment according to my scheme in post #2.

I guess your best bet is to directly access the FEM body module, see here: https://www.bimmerpost.com/goodiesfo...ectronics1.pdf

I've personally never done that nor have any experience. So I'm not able to provide further information.

Folks

I have a RHD (not sure if that even matters) 2012 F30 328i and recently had the LCI gloss black trim installed.

However - post installation I realized there is a gap between the trim and the buttons .
See picture here :
https://ibb.co/bKJQdA

I checked with the installer and he says that :
1. He had installed the original LCI panel and all his customers have the same gap
2. The reason there is a gap is because the radio buttons had changed (for what I am guessing the later LCI models?)

Can anybody confirm

Thx

No, he installed it wrong. If it's an original part, it should fit perfectly. The buttons are the same for all model years.
There are small guides for the control buttons to slide into the LCI panel. He missed those guides, which causes this gap (see attached picture).
He needs to reassemble it.

Hi Dante

May be a bit over my head with FEM module ..

Was thinking of getting power for footwell light from roof light circuit

Don’t think this will be adequate for the illuminated LCI AC/radio trim ?

You could do that, but I think the overhead ambient lights are always on an not switched with the lights. Not sure though.

If I'm not mistaken those $55 cables are almost identical to JST male to 2x female connectors, with 3 cables between them?

Wouldn't something like this work?

If I find the trim at a reasonable cost here in the UK I'll try this cable out first, can't find the harness cheap anywhere but China (slow delivery time). Otherwise it's under £40, which is almost the cost of the trim...

How do you remove the climate control and the radio buttons from the previous trim to put in the new trim? I have a '14 F30 335 and it's all one piece and I don't see an easy way of removing them.

Thanks

EDIT... then I found this link https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=468

Ok, to confirm my suspicion any cable similar to the above will work with a very minor modification.

Was quite busy lately with a business trip so couldn't visit a BMW dealership as I really did want to piece this together my self (just for the satisfaction ). Gave the above cable a shot as it meant it was here on my return alongside my 8.8" screen and new dash trim . Had it failed, I would've detoured to BMW to/from work some point during this week.

Here's what I did...

As I had 2, I wasn't too worried about dismantling/exposing the 3 pin connectors (within female connector shells/covers).

So for the steps:
  1. Exposing/trimming the plastic to show 3 pin cables (essentially labelled as male now)

I simply used scissors to cut along the edge, use whatever method you are comfortable with to 'crack' open the case/shell without damaging the pins!

You will only need to do this twice, each per "female" connector shell.

  2. Plugging in 3 pin cables into existing cabling

As you can see, the male connector provided slots in perfectly into the female connector shown below. This is why we did not need to alter this as mentioned above.

  3. Watch your LCI dash trim light up alongside the cup holder

NOTE: This is something I did without much research, so as usual as written across the forum, the above is merely for educational purposes and if you undertake/follow the above you do so at your own risk!

If anyone has reason to believe the above setup can cause problems, do let me know of your concerns and I will amend pics/info accordingly.

For something that cost £2.29 delivered next day, I found it a very good find and wanted to share, as eBay is full of "official BMW" cables made similarly for £40, so if this helps someone then great .

I bought a $8.x cable online from overseas and it works fine. It takes 2-4 weeks, but saved me the time of buying the parts and making it.

Did this mod a couple of days ago, cheap and simple. Went in blind and found the only real time consuming part was removing the Radio/AC units from the existing trim.

Thanks for the guide, wish I saw it before doing mine.
