hud with non hud windsheild- update!!

I was wondering if anyone has done this on a f30. I have read several forums that say its not that big of a difference. I also was wondering about non hud windshield with 70% tint and how the hud would look? Any info is appreciated!!

update- I put a non hud windshield in my car and its really not bad. The numbers are slightly blurry during the day and normal at night. I will update when i get the tint put on.

i've HUD and when my windshield cracked a year ago, the dealership said if i don't get the HUD windshield i'd regret...im not sure how big of a difference it'd be...but i think it'll just be less clear when you look at the info from the projection on your windshield...

which i've seen people put a piece of tint in that area, back in the days, when there was an aftermarket HUD unit out in the market...so i think if you have 70% on the windshield you should be in good hands

I have OEM HUD with OEM HUD Windshield and 35% tint on it. 5% on all other glass.

No issues.

California Licensed physician, surgeon, dermatologist or optometrist can issue a signed letter or document stating the person needs to be shielded from the sun due to a medical condition. Only clear, colorless and transparent film may be applied.

Any such materials or devices must not be used during night.

For more information see: Assembly Bill no. 1303 (September 2017) – amended medical exemptions

Thanks!

I was just reading the following from here:

(e) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the windshield, side, or rear windows of a motor vehicle if the following conditions are met:
  • (1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.
  • (2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS–14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
  • (3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun’s harmful ultraviolet A rays.
  • (4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by a licensed dermatologist certifying that the person should not be exposed to ultraviolet rays because of a medical condition that necessitates clear, colorless, and transparent film material to be installed on the windshield, side, or rear windows.
  • (5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

Seems impossible to install colored film to reduce the brightness of the light. If there are windshield that has MB's magic sky control technology but dim only a particular area, that would be awesome.
