F31 weird dome light problem

I've got a strange electronics problem: the interior dome light comes on when I open the door of the car, but not when using the switch on the light itself.

Because the light works it is possible to rule out bad bulb.

I suspect the previous owner did some tampering with the electronics/coding. Anyone knows how to fix it? I want to be able to use the switch to turn on the dome light!

Any help would be appreciated.

This selection should be an option under the main menu/settings/lighting in the iDrive. Also you can change the interior lighting to orange (classic) and dim it if you want under the same menu. If it's not there in the iDrive then yes, someone has coded it to do so. I'm pretty sure it is though.

I would look at the switch itself.

Do other button lights work for the doors as opposed to the main cabin light?
Or do all 3 buttons not work.

Those options are not available on all models.

I believe you need the extended light package in the UK for that.
