Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner- The most amazing thing ever

After 20,000 miles of filling up with Sunoco, I decided to do a deep cleaning upon learning that Sunoco is in fact NOT a top tier gas. I did a little research and found the Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner... only about $8 so it was worth a shot.

After dumping the 12 oz bottle into my empty tank and filling up with Shell V power, my car transformed

The engine literally feels like butter- rev match downshifts are 10x easier, accelerating is a breeze, and I have a newly found respect for the amazing torque curve in my car and all 300 horses.
The ticking noise of the fuel injection is also hardly noticeable at idle.. It used to be a really loud ticking that could be heard from 8 feet away.
I would definitely recommend this if you don't always fill up with top tier gas.

I can't comment on increased MPG because it's been warmer here lately, and as we all know, warmer temps causes less fuel consumption.
If all of this is a placebo, it's a pretty f*cking realistic placebo to me.

Anyone else tried this lately? Did it work for you?

So was it the use of the fuel system cleaner or the fact that you filled up with Shell gas?

I've filled up with Shell before but I noticed a subtle difference. The fuel system cleaner really did it for me. I think the carbon deposits were starting to clog up my fuel injectors. From now on, I'll only use top tier gas and the fuel system cleaner every 5,000 miles or so.

I wonder if you'll feel same after a couple fill ups. Let us know.

I used to use Techron in several Porsches and always thought it improved things. I put one large bottle in my 328i about a thousand miles ago at 5000 miles but didn't notice much. Chevron recommends every 3000 miles as I recall. I plan to keep using it at that interval. Watch for sales. I got two for one at Advanced Auto Parts.

I only use V Power in my 28 because it's close to home and cheaper than Chevron but I swear everytime I fill up with Chevron prem the car drives better. Much smoother, faster acceleration. Haven't tried the pure cleaner though.

May be a placebo effect.
I still haven't seen a "mechanic in a bottle" that really worked.

http://www.superstreetonline.com/how...stem-cleaners/

Was the improvement seen while still on the tank with the additive, or on subsequent tanks ?
If it was on the tank with the additive, may be explanable by an octane boost in the additive itself...

Nope, I've had 2 more full tanks following the fuel system cleaner and the car still runs smoother than I remember prior to everything. I'm pretty sure my combination of low quality gas, sub-freezing temps and numerous short trips caused a lot of carbon deposits to form in my engine.

+1 last time I dropped one of those in the tank of a Honda it ate up all the seals...

Techron has a long history of being the real deal. It's not snake oil by any means. Chevron spends a lot of money trying to keep it relevant due to the fact that overall quality of gas has improved.

I also heard that this Techron fuel system cleaner was developed with the help BMW but that could be a rumor. The BMW fuel system cleaner that's sold in most BMW dealers is also rumored to be the exact same thing as the Techron cleaner.

FWIW, Techtron is well know amongst the 'air cooled' Porsche club. Common process is to add Techtron to a full tank, burn through the tank, then change the oil. I'm told the reason to do this is because Techtron can seep around the piston rings and stay resident in the oil. There is a concern it adds wear to the oil pump.

I used it in my N54 E92 for 5 years and 125k miles. Never had any issues other than the normal N54 problems. (Fuel Pump/Injector recall)

Techron and BMW Fuel Injector Cleaner are one and the same. Same container, just a BMW label.

Techtron is the real deal. Helped on my old N52 328i for sure. Gained about 3mpg after putting thru my 70k mile engine.

the correct procedure is to add Techron/BWM Injector cleaner to a mostly empty tank at the gas station, then fill the tank. that fully mixes the cleaner with the fuel. Never heard a reliable/verifiable issue with the use of techron.

For a current list of Top Tier fuels: http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers/

Perhaps you meant "Sea Foam" instead of "Techron". I've heard of people preferring to change the oil shortly after an application of "Sea Foam".

It might mix faster, but they will fully mix the same eventually.

maybe its just me, but i find it hard to believe that a single bottle of this could improve things that much. i put a bottle into my empty tank and filled it up yesterday, so i really hope that i prove myself wrong. I've been noticing the acceleration isn't the same as when i first got the car.

has anyone used this and/or tried seafoam out? i wanna try that out as well
