Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak Repair costs???

Anyone have any rough estimates as to how much this should cost at an indy shop??

Im being quoted $750+ which i believe is pretty steep for this type of service which shouldnt take 4 hours max.

There's a recall on N20, so should be free.

Is this for both gaskets? FCP has the kit for both and associated parts for less than $80. I changed my front gasket in about 30 min. the Rear takes more time and disassembly. So I would liberally estimate 60 min. Therefore, less than 2 hrs. No way it is a 4 hr job. I did an oil and filter change at same time. Any decent Indy shop should only charge about 2hrs of labor and less than $90 for parts. Don't know what your Indy labor rates are in CA.

Maybe the shops think it is the N20 which is said to take ~4 hours versus a N55 which is less?????

Well, hmmmm... have no idea how long the N55 takes, yet have heard the N20 takes about 3 to 4 hours. We just discovered the wife's 2013 X1 has this problem during oil change at dealership last week. BMW of Sarasota is fixing her N20 for free under recall

I did this in my garage yesterday. Took my 3.5 hours from start to finish.

Costs me 150 for impact wrench, torx socket kit and gaskets...

Still can't believe a shop quoted me 6 hours of labor.

Big shout out to Youtube DIY videos and f30post.

yoon_209 , now comes the cleaning right? I had oil all over the front of the engine and underneath. Another 2 hours of meticulously cleaning everything.

It you have an all aluminum housing you’re OK. Early on, Bmw used a plastic filter housing on the N20/26. The plastic units are the ones that are prone to fail. The recall replaces these with the aluminum unit.

I figured, Thanks. I've watched a couple of them. Still can't decide if I want to fork over the $860 with belts swapped, or do it all myself. Don't have a garage and it's pretty cold up in the NE right now for the foreseeable future.
