I got the dreaded drivetrain malfunction error, car went into moderate drivable mode, got out of the car and small smell of coolant. Checked codes and all intake related and EGR related. Called the dealer since they ordered parts weeks ago and coincidentally is coming in this week. Gonna bring it in Friday and hopefully have it fixed by Monday or Tuesday. I'm at work and am 70 miles away. I'm a fireman and stuck at work till Friday. Do you guys think I'll have issues driving it to my dealer for 70 miles then?

I hope that's the truth and some of the modules were made available to us. I was told it could take UP TO a couple of months.

I went in for a CEL on a Thursday, determined it was the EGR cooler Friday and had it replaced and back to me by Tuesday. Metro NY area dealer.
Then the EGR took a shit (coincidently) and that wasn't covered but a new OEM EGR and 20min of shadetreeing and it was good.

Thanks man. I just hope the failed EGR won't affect the engine too much. I have to drive 79 miles back to the dealer near my home

I these codes popped up and I'm still stuck at work before I can drive it home tomorrow, which about 70-80 miles to the dealership. They already have my parts. So will any of these issues be a major factor in anything else as far as catastrophic failure or damage?

Looks like you may have a massive air leak somewhere. I wouldn't be driving that 80 miles.

Yep. Per your email too, this is most likely a boost leak.
Unless your intake manifold is melted (rare and severe scenario) , I'd be searching for popped hoses or damaged intercoolers.
Do not drive the car like that. It will be VERY obvious if you have a melted intake manifold. You need to inspect engine and intake manifold, under engine cover. And then trace the boost pipes for a leak.

Also, since the egr cooler recall is likely not related to your issue, I wouldn't take it to the dealer for that, or else you will see a big bill.

Hmm, never mind, I thought at first something was mounted there.. can you zoom in?

That might be a melt spot.

Not up for oil change yet but Bmw did the SCR and transfer pump recall. Did you see the multiple blown out holes in the intake manifold?

That looks like melted intake manifold, part of egr cooler being faulty.

I would work with the BMW dealer after sending them that picture to pay for towing.
They very well know the risk of fire if that continues melting.

Dammit, I'm gonna call my SA tomorrow but I have a feeling I'm going to be denied a tow for 70-80 mi. So that's a big possibility for low boost issues right?

You should be getting on those oil changes. Lots of people here are in the 8k miles interval camp.

Possible that your codes are all related to the intake manifold (except SCR pump), definitely do not drive it like that.

Yes, that is 100% why. It all derives from EGR cooler not cooling the exhaust, due to faulty cooling fins inside leaking coolant.

You should not drive it, because your engine is still safe here and will be reliable once the fix has been applied.
These cars aren't bad, although you've been through a bit more than others.

They can probably be convinced to pay for tow. The risk of fire goes way up once manifolds start melting. I would send them pictures if they need convincing.

You are 75% of the way to worst case scenario from the egr cooler failure. Don't let it get to 100%. The fix is free, so enjoy a good car after.

You're welcome, keep us updated. You know why there were cars that actually got to catching fire because of this?
Because they essentially ignored all the warning signs that the engine computer was giving.
