I have to admit that while I was watching the SB commercial, I chose to see it as a Z4 coupe and it's actually not bad in that light. It's heavy and ugly, but I'm an opinionated previous owner of the first M Coupe who thought the first Z4 M Coupe was also overstyled.

I can see popularity on the used market in a number of years, however.
Keep in mind this is the same company that sells this for $100K:

I've been crapping on this car since it came out, but real life non-marketing shots are making me warm up to it a little. I think with an aftermarket front bumper, steering wheel, MkIV wing, set of wheels, and a drop, this would make it worth owning to me.

The problem is I'd need to do all those things before I'd be happy with the design, rather than being happy with the base car and slightly modifying it to my tastes. Those mods altogether won't be cheap, and blowing more than 5 grand on top of the car just to get to a starting point I'd be happy with make it a hard sell for me.

Similar to the BRZ, but at least you'd have a decent motor with the Supra.

Honestly just drop a LS6 in a BRZ and be done with it.

While true, I'm much more critical of the Supra since it's basically double the price of the 86. I should be beyond happy with a 50-60k purchase, and I think at this point the 86 is a better car for me, or the M240/M2. If the Supra had any other engine besides an inline 6 turbo I wouldn't even be considering it.

I was really hoping to replace my M3 with a Supra and put a loud turbo back exhaust on it, but that's going to have to wait until I can find the aftermarket parts to fix the way it looks. Even then, it might sound and look better than my m3, but I'm not convinced it'll be a better car yet.

Time will tell.

I think it's a good car for it's price point
The m2 was compared favorable to the m3 becuase of it's lower price point ( ~$52k ) and it's short wheel base making it more agile . It had a lower spec N55 and less power but people looked past it because it was more "fun" to drive
The new Supra is even faster than the NEW S55 m2 comp , shorter wheel base 97.2vs.106 and the better "lower" spec B58 compared to the other N55
It even outpaces the m2C on the 'ring at 7:40
For a measely $50k it's the bargain car IMHO

If someone is into the styling it seems like a decent buy, assuming you aren't paying a markup. Supra is only $290 more than the 4-banger Z4.
I bet the M division did mess around putting an S55 (or the upcoming S58) in the Z4. I bet they could get away with selling a Z4M for $80-85k. I don't think Toyota would like them encroaching on the LC-F though.

No f**king way. BMW couldn't even sell Z4 M Coupes at $56,000. They sold so POORLY at that price that they had to put a $10,000 trunk cash for them to sell. Effectively dropping the prices down to $46,000.

Price a Z4 M at $80K? They'll sell exactly ZERO when the M4's base price is cheaper than that.

The fuss is about Toyota screwing (or not screwing) this up. The last iteration of the car remains a legend so it had massive shoes to fill.

Exactly.

Makes you understand how good Chevy is with the Corvette, Porsche is with the 911 and Jeep is with the Wrangler. Each of them are icons and the next one is better than the previous model.

Toyota screwed this up by being lazy. They took WAY too long to return with the Supra and ended up cheaping out by making it a sibling of a German roadster. As Dr. Phil would say "What the hell are you thinking?"

Honda is doing something similar. They overthought the NSX and took way too long to reintroduce it. When they did, they lost the vast majority of buyers. It's overly complicated for the sake of being overly complicated. They got caught up in the "tech" of the day instead of producing another icon.

It just makes it look like it's missing the lower element. Hadn't noticed those before. I also wildly hate stupid parking sensors. Just give me a front camera and leave those dumb looking circles off. Nearly as bad as clear bra.
