Strange Noise from Engine
I have recently noticed a noise coming from the engine. It's like a low level growl after the rev's drop. I don't notice it under normal driving, just at low revs or moving from a stop. Can anyone help identify the noise.
Hoping it's not related to the dreaded timing chain issue. F32 428i N20 manufacture date: 12/14 https://vimeo.com/user104211839/review/367751265/a092ef7f8b |

Oil pump growl. A lot of us have it... should go away once car is fully warmed up.
I have it on cold starts. 2014 328i with N26. Built 05/14, Munich. |

After the major problems with my previous car. I was worried it might be something else major. If it were to be something serious again. I think it would be time to give up on BMW. Just not fun if you're having to constantly deal with issues. |

Checked the oil level and it was showing about a quarter between the min/max level. Will give it top up, see if that makes any difference.

My 428i had a soft growl starting off, noticeable in the 1st and 2nd gears. Technician diagnosed it to the A/C compressor although the car was still blowing cold air. Previously, had a one time drivetrain warning that was related to the compressor high pressure sensor having an issue.

I topped up the engine oil and I can barely hear it now. But the engine was warm at the time. Will keep a eye on it, to see if it's intermediate. |

If you don’t periodically turn on the ac it will fail which will be very expensive should you decide to get it fixed.

Topped up the engine oil and the car generally seems quieter. Although sometimes there is a similar noise as before but not as loud.
I always have the HVAC fan on low but A/C off and have noticed that when it is making the noise normally at low speed when starting off or coming to a stop. If I turn the fan off the noise shuts off abruptly. So sounds like it could be to do with the HVAC or HVAC motor. Other times there is a bit of a low tickety noise that comes and goes. |
