I finally got the new windshield and the total cost was $1,500 for the HUD windshield. After quoting me $900 plus labor, the actual invoice shows $750 parts and $750 labor -- right at the 6 hours they said they would charge. They kept the car overnight to let the glue cure, so I am happy to finally have the car back. It was tough to give up after waiting 6 weeks while on order and then giving it back to the dealer with the cracked windshield one week into ownership.

I hope that is my one rock for this car!

They got you good on the labor. Glad you're happy though. Totally not a six hour job and surely don't need to keep it overnight to cure the glue. I brought my car in at 9am and it was ready before noon. They said rain wouldn't hurt it just don't take it to a high pressure car wash for 24 hours.

But I guess they have to make money somehow right?

was watching a show called 'DEALS' with host Kat Cosely and she did an interesting piece on windshield repair.

On a new car I would go with a new windshield though I may have a repair done to have more time to research the best installer.

Thought only type of resin repairs were on chips smaller then a quarter, but there are additional techniques for slowing cracking or hiding spreading cracks.

For a thin developing crack the sooner a window repair tech can drill a slight hole at the impact or end point of a crack this will relieves stress and prevent further spread of the hairline fracture.

Window techs can also fill in long fractures as well as small bullseye impacts to minimize appearance and in the case of the longer hairline fracture, buy time for researching a good repair and price, or even a wait time for a specialized windshield.

Since car structure and crash performance are involved an acknowledgment of the temporary nature of the repair might be involved.

Yeah, I agree, they got you on the labor. It shouldn't have cost that much. The glue cures within the hour, not sure why they had to keep it overnight. Doesn't matter though, at least you got your windshield fixed! Congrats!

Cracked also my windshield on my less than two months old car. And obviously, no insurance, it never happened to me in 30 years driving.
BMW quoted me 520€ (little more than 700$), with only rain/light sensors: labor was 2 hours, they need to hold car for two days to do replacement. Much less cheaper than independent repairs.
