Port Installed Option Not Available for ED

Everyone,

I just got off the phone with my CA finalizing paperworks on my new ED lease. I wanted to do a port installed PPK to help with the residual pricing on the car. CA told me BMW has put a stop to all port installed option for now due to pricing increase scheduled for 4/28. I am stuck doing a dealer installation which cost more.

Is this true or this is just another one of those dealership tactic?

I saw a note on the Ask a Dealer forum at the 'Fest noting PIA were undergoing a price increase. There was a note about PIA not being allowed for ED possibly due to some sort of an error... so they might not be BS'ing you.

I have a VERY important question to ask of you before I can answer:

Were the salesman's lips moving?

A price increase stops installation!?! That's a new one. Besides, you negotiated before the upcoming 4/28 change. Tell the dealer you want to be grandfathered in, on the price you originally agreed to, and you'd preferred to have it port installed.

This would be an issue where I would walk on the deal. But, your feelings may not be as strong.

You are correct. I call the ED hotline, 800-932-0831. No PIA on ED cars.

Correct, on ED cars. The OP doesn't say his car is ED. I have a feeling this is his dealership being too dumb to read and process all the details of the notice BMW gave them.

No reason to think that dealer-installed will be more expensive than port-installed. I bought mine from getbmwparts.com, installed everything myself except the software (took 30 minutes for the engine cover and lower intake piece), and then had my dealership do the software update for a minimal charge.

OP is leasing, so getting the option port installed makes will affect the residual value.

Your dealer is waiting for the price increase so they can get more money. Insist on doing it now, there is nothing stopping you from getting this on your lease.

Install at the port can usually be had at invoice price and there is no labor charge thus making it less expensive than an install at the dealer.

Yes, but if you buy it from getbmwparts at a discount, it will be less than the port-installed cost.

He is leasing, therefore port installed would be cheaper since PIAs are residualized.

I'm not sure what kind of math says that $1350 is cheaper than $1600, but whatever...

The kind of math where you don't pay for the full amount of the option if it's installed at port. Do you understand how leases are residualized?

I've used this strategy for all my parts listed below, and the dealer either matches them, or I get it from them directly and have it installed by my dealer..

Latest case: my wife bent 2 of my rims, dealer wanted $950, I got them for $780 shipped from getbmwparts.com...unsure how they do it, but they're cheaper...
