Yeah I was hoping to have remote start but it looks like it will require an aftermarket mod if thats even possible and that is a route I really don't want to go because of the issues.

You can get a remote starter for the engine but I'm not sure of remotely controlled AC.

You might code your car to remember and revert to the previous AC settings so that when the engine starts the AC will jump back up along with it but that also means that you'd have to have it on prior to powering off in order for it to turn on. Perhaps you can code it to start on full blast as well. But I've never heard of a completely separate control.

No coding should be necessary - set your A/C or heat the way you want, then save your "profile" in iDrive. Should revert to however you had it set next time it recognizes your key and related profile. At the very least, it should remember your last setting. There are also settings for automatic activation of the ventilation fans - look that up in your iDrive menu.

Remote starter is great but I sure wouldnt mess with already fragile/sensitive electronics in a BMW. Just asking for trouble IMO.

Interesting! Thanks for the tip, I'll have to play around with that. I know that mine currently starts the AC every time I start the car, even if it was previously off, so this could make things a bit more convenient.

The AC runs off the engine for all but the ActiveHybrid 3 so you would need remote engine start for remote AC, neither of which is an OEM feature.
