Canadian car: MPPK mystery?
My 435i xDrive 8 AT has a build date of 2013-10-11. The dealer - both the salesman and the service manager - swears that it has MPPK on it. However, the sport gauges only read to 320 foot pounds/horsepower. And there is no sticker on the engine. There is a note on the options list:
ZHE - M Performance Package II (Production on Hold - Availability TBA) - M Performance Exhaust - M Power Kit Now, there is no doubt that I have the MPE. How can I be certain whether it has the MPPK? Do I need a software update to get the gauges to read "400"? |

1. The MPPK is almost useless without the proper software upgrade. 2. The sticker is important - it alerts the Service Dept that the MPPK is installed and the software must be configured as such at install and each time there is an update. They do not go by the engine cover because "anyone can get one of those" so the sticker is meaningful. |

By connecting via OBD the Service Dept recognizes immediately that the "option" MPPK is activated (because it is not a new program, but an option activated throught a key-code, as a matter of fact it takes few time to put on the MPPK).
They don't need any sticker, IMHO |

Had mine installed awhile back, told them I didn't want rocker panel stickers installed which they did not install as well as the engine sticker lol.
But, I thought if you can hear the burble exhaust note, its evident you have the MPPK?

The lack of 400/400 sport displays is a huge tell tale sign for me. The 400/400 displays are a part of the PPK software update. There is no way you can have PPK installed without those displays being updated.

I agree 300hp...
Which leaves me in a very awkward spot with the dealer. I have a $65,000 car which doesn't seem to have been delivered as promised - and they have my M3.

Nothing awkward about this at all. MPPK is dealer installable. Invoice says you paid for it, plausible reason it might not yet have been installed. Ask dealer to reinstall the software, problem solved. Lack of 400hp gauge is a dead giveaway you don't yet have software.

Newflash: the "hardware" with the MPPK is cosmetic. Engine cover and a few decals. The MPPK is all about the flash. Having said that, you can ask for the engine cover and decal from the dealer if you don't already have those items. Not worth worrying about this at all, it will be fixed, you're good to go.
Enjoy the 435i! What a car! |

I believe you should have a new intake. Different from non PPK n55s.

300hp is correct - there is a different intake and that part of the hardware is NOT cosmetic. I know this for a fact as I asked my dealer to give me all replaced parts (so I wouldn't have to worry about them not changing the intake). Even in your circumstance, there is a way to know if you have the MPPK intake (and you want to make sure because based on sound alone it is a must have). There is supposedly an additional air hole in the MPPK version. I'm sure somewhere you can find pictures of it to compare to what is installed on your car. My guess is that they installed all the hardware, but did not install the software (correctly). You have every right to demand that they get this done for you. If there is another dealer within reasonable driving distance you might want to switch dealers as well.

Outside of the sport displays, there's another way to tell if you have the software, engine overrun. If you're cruising at low speeds, put your windows down and music off, let off the throttle and you should feel a slight jerking motion and your exhaust burbling. Part of the MPPK software is that built in exhaust overrun. |

The intake box does include an additional hole to change the intake sound. I consider this "aural cosmetics". If you could purchase the MPPK with just the software, I'd take it. The additional cover, stickers, and a hole in my intake box I can do without.

thanks for the input...
Luckily the dealer had a car with the MPPK installed so I was able to point out the differences to their sales manager and service manager. Much embarrassment on their part, but I'm a little miffed with BMW for shipping cars with some options not installed because they were short on parts. Anything to show a good month in the plant! The car was PDIed in Quebec - and that dealer should have caught this. Anyway they'll install the MPPK once they get the parts.

Yup...
I'm sorry to say I'm largely here only when changing cars, contemplating a tune, buying new tires or wheels etc.. The little time I've spent here has paid off.
