Back to the future...
This list of 0-100 kph times - largely based on BMW's official times - shows that my cars since 2000 have varied hardly at all (4.8 seconds +- 4%):
2001 E46 M3 6-spd manual - 4.8 seconds 2007 335i 6-spd manual - 4.8 seconds ****w/ Dinan stage 2 - 4.6 seconds 2010 E92 M3 DTC - 4.6 seconds 2014 435i xDrive 8 AT - 5 seconds w/ MPPK 4.8 seconds Of course my E36 M3 was about 15% slower (5.5 seconds) and the F80/F82 will be that much faster (4.1 seconds). But do I really need that? The biggest performance variance in these cars has been the superior roll-ons in the turbocharged cars, and the more assured handling close to the limit of the Ms. My idea of a perfect future BMW? As much like my E46 M3 as possible, but with the roll-ons of a turbocharged car. Maybe an M2? In the meantime, I'm very satisfied with "all of a piece" feeling of my 435i and I'm curious to see how it will handle with Pilot Super Sports. As for the "night and day" difference between M cars and other BMWs I say...well, not so much. |
