Help! Downpipe gasket - universal part?

Hi,

I just got my AA catted Downpipe, and it’s beautiful, but they forgot to include the gasket! This is for 2016 340xi.

Is the gasket a part I can find at a local parts store? Or do I need the specific one from AA? I don’t want to experiment, since labor is expensive...but if there is a universal part that is a no-brainer of a replacement I’d do that.

Is there a universal downpipe gasket that works perfectly? If so, any hint on where to get and what to ask for (part number? Or measurement and martial requirement that is needed?

Everyone just transfers the one from the stock dp to the new dp. Otherwise you need to get it from a dealer ECS/FCP

Related question about the Akrapovic DP: does anyone know if any sort of gasket is supposed to be used? It doesn't have the recessed ring like stock, so I just installed it without one, but it always bothers me . . .

Why not contact AA and have them send you a new gasket? Their customer service is good I hear.

And labor to install a downpipe shouldn't be that much lol.

They didn't forget to include a gasket unless you specifically ordered a gasket. DPs don't come with a new gasket. If you want new, dealer usually has them in stock.

Just to update you all, I called AA and they said the gasket is pre-installed on all their downpipes. We looked and there it was! Their service is great and the DP itself was beautifully made.

The sound is the best part. The car feels more responsive, too.

For anyone else that needs one it is an oem part that can be ordered online or by the dealer.

Right. How exactly this type of gasket comes pre installed on a downpipe baffles me... I will reserve judgement since I have never owned an AA downpipe but my offhand thought is that OP is trippin'

Edit: looks like it comes packaged separately from their website.

There is a groove in the dp for it. You literally have to pick it out of the stock dp to reuse it.

Call AA and ask them. They now affix they gasket to the downpipe.

Yeah I noticed the same thing with my Akrapovic DP as well as I bought a gasket expecting to replace it but there was no where to put it. My mechanic wasn't too concerned as he said that was the best fitting DP he did. I trust that akra knows what they are doing

Just guessing here but its probably to eliminate any issues of a damaged gasket during shipping as they are very fragile. We would do the same to avoid any issues.

Fair enough. Seems like it would have fallen out then when OP was unboxing, getting it installed and finally assuming it was missing. Then voila... it was pre installed. Mind you, this is not a rubber gasket that would stick in place... these paper ones will not stick in place and actually slightly expand when heated.

Just busting balls overall but that was my interpretation. All I know is... good on AA for including an OEM gasket. Only aftermarket brand that Ive seen do that, even though original gasket is reusable at least once in almost every circumstance.

Word, thanks for the reply. I put it in myself (that was a long day) and only noticed/remembered the gasket I'd bought afterwards. After partially disassembling and comparing with stock I figured I didn't need one, but I was always a little worried I might have missed something.

That is exactly the rationale behind AA’s decision to start pre-installing the gaskets
