2016 F30 Check Engine light - EVAP leak >0.5m

Check engine light keeps coming back on, after I clear the fault. Fault code has to do with EVAP leak > 0.5m I have tried to replace fuel tank cap+seal and that did not resolve the issue.

exact fault message observed:
Fuel tank ventilation and purge air system, micro-leak: leakage greater than 0.5m

Any suggestions as to what to try replacing next? Is there a DIY write up for replacing these parts?

Leak sensor? Charcoal canister? Part#s for 2016 F30?

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated

There have been a couple threads regarding this in past few months. Search the forum and they should pop up. If not, those who fixed this issue will possibly chime in eventually.

NVLD appears to be 16137448092 as indicated here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...83#16137448092

For repairs, it seems you must remove the right tank cover: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...oring/I4tKx7Mo

Then you can replace the NVLD: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...oring/JLcN6TyU

Please see the note included in the above link that mentions: "Important!
When replacing the pressure switch, the dust filter must also always be replaced."

Link to replace dust filter for NVLD. Part # can be found on the same page of the RealOEM page linked above: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...-pump/JLgQmkTh

Functional Description (Just good info IMO): https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...-nvld/GwJjhwAW

Thank you so much for all the details and links. Will reply back to this thread once parts are ordered and replacement DIY is completed. Hoping that this will solve my problem. Seems like it is a common problem for many F30 owners. Faulty (factory defective) NVLD

Purchased required replacement parts

Purchased required (with highest failure probability) parts for replacement job. Should be able to complete this DIY over the weekend. Additional information, images and instruction are on the way. Excited to get this issue resolved. Ended up costing $100 in total for both parts

DIY - images

Ended up being 30-minute DIY job. All components are located on the right (passenger) side of the car, closer to the middle. Once bottom cover is removed, all is exposed and can be clearly identified.

see images, feel free to ask any questions

After three more tank re-fills no more check engine light. Fault is gone and has not come back. I have a very strong feeling that this was the issue.

A message to all forum members who have F30, check engine light with same fault code as I have mentioned at the beginning of my post, save yourself time and money. Buy a $35-$45 part, take 30 minutes of your time and replace it. 99.9% it is the root cause of your problem. Feel free to ask me any questions related to the DIY procedure.

I got a p0440 code. Will the malfunction of this part cause my car to burn fuel more aggressively?

Where did you get your parts from for 100$ total?

Recently got this error code on my BM3 app. I think it's time I replace these parts as well!

I've got the same problem. When the codes are translated from the original German they say the tank leakage module is not responding and there's no electrical contact with the tank module. This is covered by a 10 year 100,000 mile extended warranty. I'm going to replace the module myself, which runs around $40, as it's more trouble than it's worth for me to spend a day driving to and from my dealer and waiting the inevitable three hours for them to do a half hour job. The tube, which has on one end a filter, doesn't have to be changed, only the module.

DIY is missing the vent pipe and dust filter replacement.

Note this is a 340i with a B58 engine, vs. a 335i with a N55 engine.

Cheers

Fuel Tank Breather Valve replacement...might cause a CEL. Super Easy.
This is a B58 engine model, so the N55 replacement might be different.

Massive labor on a E9X M3 for the same swap.

Cheers
