question on dm3 and dealer updating
i picked up my 2018 340 a few weeks ago. the maintenance plan ends this november, and car is up for service now. (oil, air filter, microfilter (which i assume is cabin filter)). it's the last time service will be covered so obviously i'd be inclined to have them do it, free is free.
however, i also want to flash bm3. I checked with PTF and my software levels will allow for flashing without bench unlock. but of course, if bmw updates, i'll likely be locked out. so i want the maintenance, but i don't want them updating the dme. on a routine maintenance, would they update it? can i ask them to ensure they don't update the dme? |

They will ask before updating the ECU unless you are having issues with the car that needs an ECU update.
To be safe, I always ask them not to update the ECU without getting my permission first

thanks guys.
while i'm on the topic, I have 57,000kms on my car. assuming the plugs were never changed, should they be changed at this point, before i start running a bm3 map? and if so, during the 4 year maintenance schedule, are plugs normally changed somewhere in that timeframe (i.e. now for me, since im' towards the end of the 4 year mark) |

since I bought the car from the dealer used, I'll just go there for maintenance and press them to do the plugs as part of maintenance as best I can. it's the least they can do considering I bought the car from them |

57,000kms is only 35,000 miles. Earliest Ive seen BMW say to replace plugs is 40,000 miles with the mppsk. But if you diy I would do it at 30k miles.

but I've watched some videos and it doesn't look all that bad. I watched one video where the guy somehow got all the way to the back plug without removing anything but it looked pretty awkward and tight. I'm guessing a couple hours the first time. and probably an hour tops once I get used to it. |
