Does anyone know if this is standard on the US Spec F34?

No it isn't. We don't get those attributes with our Adaptive Headlights.

What exactly do adaptive headlights do - just sense oncoming traffic and dim the brights?

Xenon adaptive features are limited to turning and auto leveling and auto high beam if you pay for that option

WTH!? Really? That doesn't make sense to me at all. Those are really awesome features, at least for me here in Germany. My buddy has a EU Spec 320d 2014, and he has it, it is really useful over here. Not much lighting on the roads here. Of course the cities are well lit, just not the other roads so much.

Calm yourself we have adaptive Xenon not led. Still adaptive, just not in the same way. Your friend probably has the xenons as well. Don't think leds are an option on GT's eu or not

I know, I know, just really liked those adaptive "intelligent" lights, really really useful here. Just exploring my car since I picked it up tonight.

As on my last 3 BMWs, I specified xenon headlights on my F34 328i because I like the clean, bright, powerful spread of light. I find them very useful on our Scottish Highland roads. I also like the self-levelling system as they power up.

I didn't, however, pay for the adaptive or high beam assist systems.
After well over 40 years of driving I pretty well know when to dip my headlights, and anyway if I did forget, an oncoming driver would soon 'remind' me.

I don't like to pay for things I don't use, or find useful.

I wish this was mandatory , in china people drive with high beams even in well lit cities. Actually they have the high beams AND the fog lights, just to be sure i guess.

It's not just on or off. When you drive on the highway, the right high beam is always turned on. And between cars on the left side the left high beam comes up and follows the oncoming car (until it is very close and the light cant turn left any more). Also, driving behind somone, it lets you use both high beams on either side of the car. With adaptive cruise control this is very helpful. Makes driving through 6 months of darkness much more pleasant.

I was told it's because of antiquated US laws... A car must have both high beam and low beam. Adaptive headlights fall in between. I noticed this when I ordered my 4 series with the LED lighting package... In the order summary it says decoding for anti-dazzle.

Wow. I would say this feature is safer than without.
