Peeling Leather on Back Seats (2015 F30)
I recently purchased a 2015 BMW 328xi and the leather on the back seats (both left and right sides) is peeling away from the trunk. I have attached the images below and I am wondering if there is something I can do to quickly fix this myself by ordering some products or parts, or if I need to take it into a professional.
View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com I've only taken it to one place for a quote and he said $350-400 which seemed high. Anybody have any recommendations or experience with this? Let me know, thanks! |

They didn’t mention exactly how they’d fix it, just that he needed to order some of the leather. However the guy from the dealership told me he knows a way some people can stretch the pre-existing leather for like $50. |

Not sure how they could fix it or get a perfect match. May be easier to replace the whole back seat if you can find a used one. Unless the sides are separate pieces. |

Search eBay or cars parted out for the 2 pieces. See piece #9 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=52_3785 You need to make sure it is really leather and not sensatec. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2018-B...M/192824569438 |

IMO, $350-$400 to fix this sounds like a reasonable price. Ii'd assume they have to take the seats apart, install new matching leather in that area, stitch it in, then re-install the seat backs. I'm sure you could get it done a bit cheaper, but $350 doesn't sound too high. |

My previous F32 the hand brake gaiter was leather, but on my current car its shiny and your can see all the wrinkles underneath. That looks like fake leather. |

Here in the US, the Sensatec is the leatherette, and Dakota is real leather.

It looks like the leatherette. They laminate a thin coating of leather on top of vinyl for a leather finish (a lot of kitchen chairs/bar stools, etc use this).
Very durable, stretches, doesn't typically wrinkle like true leather. From those pictures, I'd think you'd need to replace the material though. It does look cut. |

That's why I asked for VIN....as it looks as if it could be Sensatec. |

My bad, I missed that. Is that the seat foam showing through? Its hard to tell from the picture but it looked like the outer layer peeling (which is what prompted the leatherette assumption).
Regardless, it definitely isn't "normal" or "normal wear". |
