Man o man do I love our GT. Nearly 100k miles and it's really the only car our kids have known. It's been through everything with us, from long trips to short, from Montreal to Charleston, from 110 degrees to 20 below zero, from traveling light to packed-to-the-gills. But it is approaching the century mark and we are thinking of a replacement. Our greatest wish would be for BMW to reverse course and start work on the brand new 2024 GT but given that not being in the cards, what other vehicles out there would you all recommend?

Specific things we love about the GT:
- Drives like a car
- Nice long wheel base
- Excellent back seat space for the kids
- Comfortable for the adults
- Enough (usually) cargo space
- Looks great
- Pretty good mileage

After having difficulty getting in/out and fitting comfortably in the back of the new BMW i4/4 Series Gran Coupe, I now have a deposit on a Fisker Ocean and am waiting to see the Genesis GV70 EV and Mercedes EQE SUV. I think (not absolutely positive yet) these meet your needs, assuming the dynamic capabilities of these brands and you're ready to convert to electric. All of these will be about 12 months out, so I'm planning now. My 2018 GT just passed 20k miles and will make a great "second owner" car for someone next year!

I wouldn't buy anything in its first year of production, and the reviews would have to be stellar to convince me to buy in the second year. It takes time and miles to shake the bugs out.

You're not wrong, but I'm starting to get to the age where I don't buy green bananas anymore.

I can dig it, I'm 72. My GT just passed 22k and I don't plan on making a change until I hit maybe twice that, which should be around model year 2030 should I make it that long.

I don't know. I bought the GT in the first year of production and it had some terrible reviews about the looks (more complaints about the 5-series than the 3-series) and about questioning who would buy this car. Answer: it looks great, it's perfect for a family.

2019 640 GTs (G32) might be showing up off lease this year. You just have to pay more of course to dial the mileage back further. They're longer at 200" vs 190" but look quite a bit more refined than my 2014.

The EV's are getting much more interesting. They can make better use of space, are generally pretty quick and no fluids to change. Not sure we have the infrastructure just yet, but if your car is for commuting and you get a charger installed in your house it makes sense.

Honestly a Tesla model Y is kind of the only thing I’d be interested in getting over the GT right now. Not a fan of suvs but they drive very well. An F31 wagon would be fun too.

Based on quality, I'd never give Tesla a nanosecond of consideration. Model Y? Seriously? I'd say that EVs such as Nissan Ariya or Ford Mach E (great first year quality reports in CR) all come a far distance first place over anything made by Tesla. I don't care what their recharging network is with the cars they build.

I owned a 328 GT and now own a 640 GT which I love. The 640 GT is a great car but in the US it is a rare car. Its so rare parts take weeks for them to arrive. Every service issue takes months to resolve. Air freight issues due to Covid has not helped. I would recommend a new car with warranty as a result. As to the next car that is tough. Lots of good options but none much better than the others. Tough time to buy anything new or used.

I am shopping for a replacement as well. I would say that the Tesla quality has gone way up. They have solved some of those issues. But, the price has gone way up as well. I mean with self-driving and the third seat the Y is like 80K. I am too cheap to go that route when you can get a perfect lightly used new 80K gas car for 40 to 50 K.

Regardless of price, Tesla has a secure place on my rejection list. For me, it doesn't meet the bare minimum threshold of quality. I'm probably between Genesis GV70EV and maybe MB EQE SUV if that model launches well. I recognize the Tesla sales success. Lots of folks think some famous fast food brands make an acceptable meal too. Lastly, as to all the money Elon is sweeping in, I recall the writer H.L. Mencken's famous quote:

As an aside, concerning Kia and Hyundai and smartphone connectivity being the most common problem in all new vehicles. A little more than a few years ago, I wanted to semi-retire and sell cars. The dealership I applied sold Hondas, Kias and Hyundais. The Honda dealership was standalone, but the Kia and Hyundai were semi-separate. I was hoping to sell Hondas, but they put me selling Kias. One of the things that Kia and Hyundai stressed after the sale was training the customer on how to use the infotainment system with their phones to the fullest. The corporate sales tests were very heavy on knowing the ins and outs of their infotainment systems. As poor as everything else was about their vehicles, their infotainment was top notch.

My next car to replace my current Volvo lease will be an EV. Keeping the GT. I've been really interested in the Ford Mach E. It really is a stunner imo. Wish it had a bit more range though.
