There are a couple of incorrect double quotes. Try this

Can someone please explain how to do the following in E-Sys? I have the E-Sys - Getting Started Coding - Part 1 PDF but I am not understanding the steps below.

I also can't get the car to recognize the usb flash drive. It is FAT32 formatted and the only things in it are

USB1
USB2
USB3
pkgdb (from USB1)
config.nfm (from USB1)

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can actually grab the 1B or DE file from E-sys by doing the following:

FSC Extended

Base variant 0x63 (For HU_CIC or HU_NBT)
Click Identify
Application ID 0x1B for (App ID 27 for CIC) 0xDE (App ID222 for NBT) <--- This is the App for your Nav enabler
Upgrade Index 0x1

Move Store FSC from the left to the right
Click Read
Click Save and name the file FXXXXXX_0001B001.fsc for CIC or FXXXXXX_000DE001.fsc for NBT where FXXXXXX is your VIN.

I've tried this method for both CIC and NBT and it works.

but 2014 - 00A80003 ? and 2015 - 00A80004 ?

Something is wrong with the .FSC file you posted. The VIN on the file is J553986, but the VIN encoded in the file is F856938.

Where/how did you get this file? Did you retrofit your NBT?

I've managed to update to 2015-1 using the Esys method, thanks to the good folk on this forum.

What I wondered was, could we use the theoretical code as above for, say 2017-1 (0x0A) and have a code that would allow the next few updates without having to enter a new one...?

No, because the FSC generator uses that Hex value which is located in the map info file. And that value changes with each release.

Oh well if it doesn't follow a sequence, then no. Thanks for the reply.

It does go in a sequence, but you have to wait until you're installing that release, using that hex value. That prevents someone from using the same FSC over and over for future releases.

I've wondered this too!

From what I've seen, I think the comparison between the value set the the FSC code and the value in the map info file and the is done as greater than or equal to, not strictly equal. This would allow us to generate codes for future maps without having to re-enter an FSC code each time.

First, I've see people able to downgrade their maps without having to enter a downgraded FSC code. That indicates that either the car remembers old FSC codes, or the test is >=.

Second, when I generated my FSC for the 2015-1 Premium (CIC) map (0x09), I used sequence code 0x0A just to see what would happen. I figured that worse case that the code would be rejected. The car accepted that code when I installed the 2015-1 maps! I'm now waiting for the next release (2015-2?) to see if I can install that without entering a new code.

If that works, then the question is, how far in advance is is safe to advance the map sequence code? There may be some upper limit that if we go past, something bad could happen; we just don't have any way of knowing. That's why I just tried +1 instead of, say, +50.

I think that once the FSC is entered into the car it's stored there. If you have a high enough sequence, you won't be prompted for the code again.

That may also explain some reports of people upgrading their maps on new cars without being prompted for an FSC.

If the car was manufactured with FSC code 0x06 in anticipation of 2015-1 NEXT, but the car was installed with 2014-2 NEXT, installing 2015-1 wouldn't require the code.

Well that also ties in with my experience last time when I bought a code for 2014-1 but the maps were corrupted and missing some areas around Manchester UK. So eventually I installed 2013-2 but didn't need a code. That said, I did originally have 2013-1 so perhaps i could have updated without getting a code.

Anyway - I have the necessary now to generate codes.

Which software? The generator works fine for me and I'm running Win7-64.

For CIC I find it easier to use 3 8GB (or larger) USB sticks. You can do it with one 32GB, but after each USB image is installed, you have to move directories around on the USB stick and put it back in the car. The instructions show you want you need to do.

Ok, lets see what im doing wrong:

first, I wasnt able to use the SWID tool...so I had to use this method:
Code:
FSC Extended

Base variant 0x63 (For HU_CIC or HU_NBT)
Click Identify
Application ID 0x1B for (App ID 27 for CIC) 0xDE (App ID222 for NBT) <--- This is the App for your Nav enabler
Upgrade Index 0x1

Move Store FSC from the left to the right
Click Read
Click Save and name the file FXXXXXX_0001B001.fsc for CIC or FXXXXXX_000DE001.fsc for NBT where FXXXXXX is your VIN.
- When I decode the saved fsc file...I get nothing, blank spaces.

- What I do next is I open the fsc in E-sys, under Weitere Felder i see ExtensionData with a long string that looks like it could be the fsc code i need.
- I copy and paste that into the decoder and save it as a.hex
- I run the code generator, it says successful
- I open code.txt....its an empty file

What am i doing wrong?
