Besides from the annoying chain noise, prior to going into the dealership it was driving like a dream.

Can’t get my head around this one.

Would an engine flush fix ? I mean I’ve seen sludge far worse and thicker

This is what I mean, I’ve followed everything in the correct manner. I do occasionally let loose on the accelerator but genuinely I can’t understand what or why this is happening.

"my local independent/ specialist recommends that the chains and associated equipment is swapped out at 90k or every 9 years"
Go for it. BMW know nothing. He is not after business or parting you from money is he.

The earlier N47 engines from inception to early 2009 did indeed suffer from excessively sharp crankshaft sprockets which could snap the chain as well as worn chain guides.

Appeared on Watchdog and eventually forced BMW into recalling certain models.

But BMW know best don't they?

That seems about right and sometimes I think some independent specialist give better advice than the dealerships instead.

They suggested a new engine at 15k +

Hopefully a good engine flush and new timing chain would fix it 🙈

Sell it to wbac and buy another if they're suggesting a new engine
