I just used that black box to jack up my 328 f30. I saw the kies motorsports video on how to jack up your car and that box wasn't on the car in the video. Anyway It felt like it was made out of metal and it has no purpose other than to jack up the car. So I used it to jack up the car from the rear and it worked perfectly.

It’s an old topic, but I had to respond to the “black box” of being a jack point. It is definitely NOT a jack point. It is a vibration damper which is probably used to change the eigenfrequency of the rear subframe(thus making it more quiet). Don’t know if it is really needed or just an upgrade w.r.t. the E9x that didn’t have one. That said, do not use it for jacking up the car, either remove it or support it next to it.
