No, it’s a permanent change to full screen. The usual (normal) half screen CarPlay is changed to full screen!

Although I didn't think this was possible ios side due to the SDK's resolution requirements:

It's not a magic combination of FDL coding, it's more than that. FDL coding alone won't achieve this.

That is partially true Robert.

@wibbles I've heard on the g30 forum a suggestion this is going to be standard on new cars built from November. Do you know if that's true?

On all cars? My f36 started production on 7th Nov

Or this could be availability of CarPlay and still needing to buy it with a subscription? The whole enhanced Bluetooth/WiFi hotspot stuff is dumb as hell - give us the capability as standard as you can then sell more services to customers

Although CarPlay is rapidly becoming a low-end feature on cars - saves them having to offer expensive satnav. My wife’s new polo has it as standard and many of the other cars we looked at were the same. BMW having it as a complex option needing various technical boxes checked plus a £235 charge is nuts.

BMW release firmware every 3 months, They have just released the latest version and that isn't in any G30's as far as I know. They may implement it in the future, hard to say.

So I've just installed this via USB stick, everything went well. I deleted the phone from the car and the car from the phone, re connected to my phone and it asked me if I wanted to use CarPlay. I said yes and it whirred round for about 30 seconds and then it was done. However, CarPlay just isn't appearing, everything just looks the same on the iDrive screen?

I know I haven't got a wifi antenna installed yet, is that likely to be why it isn't starting CarPlay on the screen?

The firmware doesn't support Fullscreen Carplay.

Yep, put the phone closer to the climate panel.

I hope the set you bought offers the ability to revert the activation before a dealer visit, if not, insist that they don't update the firmware.

Why? I've heard the latest i-levels will stop Carplay through USB, but when I took my car in I just hit CODE with E-SYS which removed carplay. Added it back on again after. Is that not OK to do? I got my code through Robert.

I did notice that since they flashed my car (about 2 months back) I can no longer code idrive 6 lite. I'm guessing they are locking everything down with newer revisions.

This has nothing to do with coding.

coding out Carplay only changes the FDL item CARPLAY_SWT = Nicht_Aktiv

When BMW flash your car to a later iLevel with Roberts solution installed BMW won't be able to activate the navigation or any other FSC enabled functions, like Voice Control - all the FSC's will be rejected and BMW have no way via ISTA to clear the FSC codes in and re-install them.

So in your case, make sure you don't get a software update later than 11-18 or your will have to have your iDrive flashed or another solution.

I'm pleased Robert told you all this when he took your money.....

And why can you not code idrive 6 lite?

Surely if I VO code the HU_NBT2 ECU then it removes the FSC and carplay coding? Or I only lose the FDL coding and the carplay FSC stays there?

When I tried to code back to ID6 lite the option wasn't there. From memory it isn't a werte code but a drop down box. I had it coded before I took it in but I removed all my coding so they wouldn't moan. Guessing they flashed it when they did MPPSK rather than just the DME.

Maybe my pszdata is too old for the car.

To be honest I think CarPlay is sh*t so not worried about losing it in the future as long as everything else works as it should.

VO coding does nothing with the FSC's, special tools are required to clear them on an EVO unit.

If they flash your unit then Nav, Voice Control and Apps won't work - so the unit will basically be a radio/CD player until the FSC's are restored.

Is there any way for me to back up my FSC or remove the CarPlay FSC to stop this? The car is under warranty so if I have an issue chances are they will upgrade i-level.

The CarPlay FSC was only £100 so not worried about losing it. I actually think ID5 with EBT is better for most things.

Not much good if your solution doesn't back the original codes up and won't help one bit if the dealer updates the idrive - you do understand this stuff right?

It's not just the Carplay FSC codes - it's an all or nothing deal.

If you don't get a software update, you'll be fine.

If you do need to update for whatever reason, can you share some best practices on how to properly backup your codes prior to flashing? I assume e-sys has some sort of function for this?

Or is the original concern based solely off dealer-applied updates?

I tried reaching out via PM but your inbox is full. --Thanks.

I too bought a code, so am I reading this correctly, if my f30 was to go in and get an i-step update my nav wouldnt work anymore?

if this is the case how would I go about getting a restore to the original FSC if I don't have a backup

I got it from these guys- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-NBT-EVO-Idrive-5-6-Apple-Car-Play-Activation/152845217621?hash=item239648ef55:g:1p8AAOSwBRFaRXI c:rk:1f:0
thanks

Inbox cleared - you don't need to back your codes up, this is only if you have a patched set of FSC codes.

You need to speak to whoever sold you the activation.
