I have both Foxwell and Carly. Carly is great for coding and code reading, but the Foxwell is a much more robust tool. You can code injectors for example.

Assuming one has a need to code injectors, which is likely not nearly as common as feature coding.

The NT510 allowed me to activate the low pressure fuel pump (to prime) when I changed the fuel filter. When I had a check engine for the DEF tank, I was able to confirm the tank temperature sensor was defective. Carly cannot any of this. Carly list all codes, pending codes and real codes, in one screen without identifying the type of codes. With the NT510, I can tell which code is pending codes and which code is a real codes. Note: The pending codes do not turn ON the CEL. Pending codes that only stay for a given amount of time or a number of start will become a real code and turn ON the CEL. I do not use anymore Carly because the NT510 is far superior diagnostic tool. |

Just recently sold my E90 328xi for a F15 X5. I take it from this thread that no one has issues with communication of the NT510 with the F series BMW. Reason I ask is because my F15 X5 is unable to automatically read the VIN. I then go to the manual selection to select the car, but the scans are very limited and not a full scan. I've successfully used the NT510 on several E series BMWs. I submitted a support ticket to Foxwell and this was my response:
"Hi Sir, We are sorry that NT510 can work on F series BMW cars normally because of its hardware, we will solute this problem as soon as possible. Thanks" Like many on this thread, I tried both Carly and Foxwell. I used the Carly for coding, but for the E series BMWs had preferred the Foxwell for diagnostic. Was hoping to cancel Carly here when my 1 year ends. But may have to keep it or go the ISTA route. |

Bill gave me this advice in another thread when I was unable to reset my brake sensors. The dash was reporting "reset impossible". Plugged in the NT510 and within 5 minutes it was done. This is just one small piece of what this tool can accomplish, do yourself a favor and pick one up.
Now with BimmerCode and this I feel like I have comprehensive access and control of the systems in my car. My friend also wants to buy a Mini, so this will be great to have on inspection.

My NT510 has never been able to read the VIN. I manually enter the chassis and it works fine. BTW, getting sensible responses from Foxwell is pretty much impossible, as it seems no one there has sufficient command of the English language to either fully comprehend the question being asked or to formulate a coherent response. When I have a question I go to

Wow!!!! Thank you for the info. I will check this out. I am still under warranty but when it runs out I plan on doing my own maintenance. This could come in handy.

I bought mine a year before my warranty ended, and saved it's full cost in the time that I would have wasted going to my dealer to diagnose a problem that it turned out wasn't a problem.

Mine got too cold and now none of the buttons work even after thawing it out. Nothing can really withstand continuous -20 to -30 temps I understand but i wanted to let everyone know so that you bring it inside on those frigid days! I'm a little disappointed to be honest. Currently trying to see if I can get a replacement from foxwell.

My garage never gets much below 20F, the thermal berm provided by the concrete floor sees to that. I just used my Foxwell the other day, no problems.
