I have had my 320i for a few days now. After having both a E46 and E91 diesel, I am really pleased with the 320i. The acceleration on low RPMs is very good, more than enough torque for me. Haven't tried the car on high RPMs yet, since I have to break in the car first.

That reflects exactly the different characteristics between a 20d & a 20i. The 20i is faster using kickdown cos the petrol engine has wider power band & stronger top end. On the other hand if u drive a manual & don't like to change down for overtaking, the 20d will be faster cos it has higher peak torque, providing u've not let the revs drop too low.

Apart from the fact that the 20d cannot compare with the 28i. Having said that, if u look at the retail prices in Germany the difference between 20i, 20d & 28i is 2000 Euros each.
