***DIY: bootmod3 OBD Agent build with RPi 3 B

first want to thank op and all those that went before me. i hated lugging the laptop out to the driveway and dealing with a sometimes wonky home wifi connection to flash. this solution is going to be great, but ...

i rtft and think i have a new one. working with an f80/s55 on iPhone 6 (ios 11.1.2), i:
- followed all steps: bootmod3/bootmod3, disconnect from home wifi, disabled wifi services
- obd agent connects just fine, every time. can even pull logs.
- however, when i go to flash and start the download - even when i "download first, then flash" - it gets only so far or ~:45 and then the app fails and kicks me out. you can see the blue bar at top below. sometimes it gets all the way to the end and kicks me out.

anyone deal with this before with ios?
is it my archaic device?
i have an airport at home and am going to rename my "guest" network to bootmod3/bootmod3 tonight and see what happens.

i hate to bother dzenan and halim with this and appreciate any insight you guys have.

Wow that's really odd. I've never seen that before. Can you flash just fine with your laptop? Have you tried flashing with the app on your phone but using the laptop as the Agent device?

ok, cool, so it's not just me.

laptop connects and flashes fine. just poses the usual issues ... have to flash 3-4x to get it to take and always online recode. i haven't done the app w/ laptop (kinda defeats the purpose, eh?!) but could give it a whirl after i try the home network route and update ios software on my 6.

It's entirely possible it's the old phone. I tried using an older Galaxy Tab and it would never work until I told Dzenan about it.

defeats the purpose but will help in troubleshooting. IF the app works with the laptop then you have an issue with the agent, if the app doesn't work with the laptop then it's a problem with your phone.

fully charged, on a charger during flash.

looks like it's the iphone. flashed via laptop last night with little issue - app didn't work with laptop.

stage I (s55, 93 octane) is pretty gnarly.

Just built one of these bad boys. I use it with my Galaxy S9. Works flawlessly every time. It even updates the agent automatically when it's available, pretty cool.

A friend showed me this thread tonight and I thought I'd post a quick pro tip for those that want to have the OBD Agent use their home WiFi when at home and their phones native Hotspot Tethering when away.

I've been doing this with an official OBD Agent supplied by a friend of mine who's a Bootmod3 dealer since sometime last year.

The WiFi settings are controlled by wpa_supplicant, as discussed in the instructions from PTF on changing the WiFi settings. However, you can add multiple wireless settings into the wpa_supplicant file and it'll use them in order until it finds the proper one to connect to.

So you can add your home wifi information as the first set of settings, then your phone hotspot, etc, etc. When the OBD Agent starts up, it'll attempt to connect to them in order. So it'll use the home wifi when it sees that SSID available and fall back to the phone tethering when it's not available.

I'll post an example tomorrow for those that want to give it a go.

i was sooo hoping that RESET SETTINGS would work. i tried it 3x and still cant get it working. i dont know what the hell is going on with it. about to chuck it and get another one.

Followed the steps, used the newest firmware in first link, connected to power (red light on pi is on), enet is connected, hot spot is on (bootmod3/bootmod3) BUT nothing connects. Any ideas? Is there a way to see if the pi is working??

Is your sd card fat32 or ntfs?

Not sure about tethered use with iPhone as I'm on a Galaxy S9, but haven't had any issues using hotspot.

Last line is showing a Kernel Panic. You may have a bad SD card. Try reformatting it and rebuild.
