A variant of the same engine. If we're going to play that game, it's also used in the i8

Or it's a 340i lol since those are lci-only models. The only way will be with the LED headlights/taillights. Other than that I've been staring at the comparison photos and can't see any other changes. Maybe in person will be different. :

Thanks for posting the pictures.

I've got a Sportline and I read elsewhere that the new base model will be the Sportline. I bought mine off the lot... and originally kinda liked the "whiskers", but now not so much and have been thinking about ways to black them out (wrap, or whatever).

I like the new lower front treatment in this shot. Seems to look better integrated or something...

I think that the base model will take lots of cues from the sport line, but I think there will still be a sport line model. If you to go the configurator below:

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...ml?#visualizer

You'll see there are:

- Standard
- Sport
- Luxury
- M Sport
- Individual
- 330e (Electric)

Surely the states may only see some of the of the above options, but given how many 'standard'/base 328's I see on the road, I'd rule out the chance that the states doesn't continue receiving a base model.

Why would they add those horrible fog lights on the m sport.

Because in most markets you cannot sell the car without them.
Customers demand them and like them.

And yes, some will always look better than the LCI or even newer models. Your mind is probably bored and used with the current style, and you are embracing the new style mentally, that's it. If I will show you two cars that you never seen, pre LCI and LCI and ask you which is which based on the exterior you will most likely be wrong.

New one is not always better. Technically, Maybe. Design wise, not really.
Have a look at the E39 M5. A Timeless machine.

In the end, be open to other opinions as well. Not everybody needs to embrace a pair of sneakers and yellow sunglasses with a Caraceni suit just because is new, LCI or "fashionable".
Negative. While I agree that every generation has design elements that are unique to it and can make it stand out above later generations. Case in point, I agree that the E39 M5 is a timeless design that will stand the test of time for years to come. But the components that were updated on the E39 M5 LCI (like the headlights) make the refreshed model look better than the pre-LCI E39 M5.

While everyone's talking about visual updates, what's more exciting is the changes to the guts of the car. Like many others, I can't easily see the differences in the appearance of LCI vs pre-LCI, but the handling and other performance dynamics will definitely feel different between the two. I look forward to those reviews once the new models are available for testing!

Cool Meh...

Not mind blowing at all. My 14' 335i Sport looks better than the 16' LCI.
Will keep it until the fully redesigned 2018 model comes up.

I actually thought I wanted them. Now I think the Fog Lights ruin the M Sport models. My one friend's ex has a 328 M Sport w/ fogs, and she is now nick named 'fog lights' (not for the other reason either). He has an F80, and I have an M Sport with no fogs.

It also has more gloss black touches to it, and not that matte cheap looking black plastic.

This is correct. There is still a "Standard Specification" model and it is clearly stated on page 11 of a BMWAG .pdf I have posted multiple times.

Asthetics aside, I am happy to hear suspension and steering changes, but we will have to seebif they are actually upgrade or downgrade in terms of feel.

The biggest downside is the new gear ratio. It seems to be driven by MPG rather than performance. I dont really care for additional help of 1 mpg. I do that very well on my own already. I dont need a crazy shifting ZF.

E90 design one might argue NEEDED a facelift (or ass lift) a lot more than the F30 did. Hence the effort looks fairly tame. In E90 they changed a lot indeed, from lights and bumpers to rear track width!

Still, to me the E90 is a damn good looking car and a front of it IMHO is a lot nicer than the current car. Current 3 series has that super clean super nice look that all Audis started having at one point. And it became kinda average. The E90 had that super quirky looking design which I really liked, facelift model in particular. But I drive a clown-shoe, so I am definitely not in the focus group for designs that sell best.

A lot of truth here.... E90 needed design, f30 needed suspension, steering, and a just bit of motor.

That's what BMW delivered

I see no real difference between the two besides one being red and one being blue.... I'm joking for the most part, but honestly the LCI changes are very muted. Nothing which really makes all the pre-release excitement worth all the time and effort.

Looks nice. Pre LCI looks as nice too.
That being said, let's go ahead and just include LED tails from the beginning when the full model change is due, BMW. Please.

How can you be so sure, when you haven't driven an LCI F30?

Gosh, talk about a "countdown" to nothing. Something so cosmetically inconsequential would barely be mentioned by other car companies. On the actual changes, pretty much confirms where BMW is directing all money for development. Troubling.
