Price fixing
I've been looking at different BMW garages (web sites) to get a brake pads / discs service on my car.
You need to enter your reg details to see the price list for general service items, for your specific model. Every dealer around the country, has the same price list. Stratstone, Lookers & Sytner dealers are all the same. Phoning around resulted in the same figures being quoted, apart from where I bought the car from, who quoted an even higher figure! Anyone else have a similar experience recently?

Buy and fit them yourself (easy job if you've got the necessary tools) or go to a good indy.
It is not mandatory for BMW to do the work in order for you to keep the vehicle warranty intact.

Get a quote from a decent independent garage - then you'll really be amazed at the price!

Going to say, they've done you a favour! Brakes at dealers really are a rip off, parts are already way over-priced vs what you can get them for yourself and the labour price is extortionate for something that doesn't warrant anything specialist.
Not sure what brakes you've got, but you can get the full set of front/rear discs and pads for the M Sport brakes (bigger 370/345 ones) for around £500 odd so add maybe 1-2 hours labour on depending on if anything is stuck and that should give you a guide price. |

As above. It's called fixed price servicing and stops say a London dealer charging significantly more than anywhere else.
I think if you are paying a dealer you are looking at £120+/hr labour at a minimum. My independent specialist is half this. They may quote 2-3 hours labour and parts will also be more expensive, as they won't quote for other brands that an independent would - that could also be better than OEM. Armaan |

Just booked my car in for a service and noted it was cheaper to call them than book through the BMW website.
Although for brakes it’s a huge cost and I may consider doing it myself or getting an Indy to do it. Can the I drive get updated if you change brakes yourself? |

For reference I had new Textar rotors, pads and sensors fitted today at my indy. Bought the rotors and pads from aceparts on ebay for around £480 (370mm/345mm). I was another £28 or so for the sensors. Indy fitting cost was about £200 so about £700 all in.
Textar make the genuine OE ones too - the aluminium bells are identical to the originals. I went for the grooved and dimpled ones this time, just because! Really happy with the result - |

I'm sure a few years back getting a quote online returned different prices at different dealers. This time round like you say all prices were the same. Just had an intermediate service done, spoke to dealer and got a slightly cheaper price by pushing the point it was over 3 years old and then weirdly on the day when I went to settle up they went to charge the full online price, when I mentioned the quoted price they knocked another £40 off. Go figure 😂

Service costs:
These were BMW quotes for a 2017, 335d from 2018 to this month. Only the latest figures are 'value service' prices, since the car is now over 4 years old. (Every UK dealer appears to link to the same pricing page). Stealers A & B are the same in each case and are midlands based BMW. Two other quotes were obtained for a front brake pads & disc replacement. One from a local indepenent BMW garage, which was £30 cheaper. One from a local garage ( which I've used for other work) which was £20 more expensive! Neither offered a courtesy car. No point in not using BMW unless you do it yourself, at those prices. The iDrive service history will be updated and earn bonus points for future sale potential. Still fecking expensive!
