We were called multiple times by this location and asked when we would like to bring in our 2018 440i gc for it's scheduled maintenance of an oil change during COVID, we asked if we could push off given our daughter has epilepsy. The individual clearly stated it would void our warranty - note this advisor can see our lease mileage. We decided to risk it as they called again, and made plans all around safety. When we arrived they said our car was no longer under free maintenance and they wanted to charge us $650 for an oil change and cabin filter. They also took 0 responsibility for the bait and switch, and said they don't know who called. We talked to the General Manager of the Dealership: Jim and the General Manager of the Service Dept: Bob to make this right, and they didn't and were extremely unprofessional. During the drop off the Service folks let us know they weren't getting any business, so this was a push by them and they know it (Marketing 101). I hope they can live with themselves that they decided to pressure us into bringing our car in, so they can make a few hundred dollars while risking our daughters life. Awesome work.
And no I'm not paying them that kind of money to change the oil or filter in which I can do myself. Furthermore I discovered warranty work I requested to be performed last time the car was there for service was never completed , or documented , but was told it was done. This explains why it's still an issue today (ac stops blowing air out the vents after the car is driven for an hour yet u can hear the internal fans like if it is on max) |

650 for oil change, filter? Oil kit is about 65 bucks and cabin filter 25 bucks and literally done in less than an hour. Crazy they get people to pay to keep it at those prices, glad I like working on my own cars.

Damn... that's just fk up. Peter Pan took you to Neverland. That's just crazy. You got all this in writing(you keep the paper work right), for the hell of it... I'll be filing a complaint to BMW.

Yes I'm going to bmw corporate , and just reiterating I did not pay $650. I told them no way and not authorizing it and taking my car back. I've done my own work on my cars all my
Life, only reason this car was going to the dealer was it previously had the free maintenance package. If you look at yelp reviews of this service department it looks like I'm not the only one they have been doing this to. |

OP, thanks for sharing. It's even difficult to comment. I wonder how the service advisor would respond to the request to provide an itemized estimate for $650 proposal: parts, labor, shop supplies.

Funny enough when I asked for it itemized they came back with this :
I got authorization to give a significant discount. With discounts it would be $110 for the oil change, $185 for the cabin air filter, & $160 for the vehicle inspection. That would bring the total to $455. |

Even the discount pricing of $455 is absurd considering extended maintenance package is $899 and covers to 75k miles. Not sure how they come up with pricing |

$110 for an oil change isn't terrible. $9 Mann filter and about $50-60 in oil would be your DIY costs, but then you'd have to dispose of your old oil.
$185 for cabin filter is highway robbery. Filter element can be found for around $40 for BMW OEM, half that for aftermarket. 15-20 mins start to finish. $160 for an inspection that's not a full diagnostic seems high to me. I've seen dealership promos that offer free vehicle inspections. Local indy charged $180 for a diagnostic fee, but waived it because the problem was what I told them it probably was based on my code scanner results (which makes another case for having a code scanner handy, stand-alone or app based...I use BimmerLink).

For cabin filter, I got the OEM filter from FCP Euro for $20. It takes about 15 minutes, the hardest part is to get under the glove box. I would opt out for the inspection. Last time when I had my oil change in December, the SA told me the car was perfectly fine when I picked up the car. He then recommended the $160 inspection, literally 10 seconds after telling me my car was fine. I am under the impression that the mechanics would check the car while they service it, in case of any potential danger and/or business opportunity. |

Sorry to hear that. Out of the dozen or so BMW dealer experiences I've had, maybe 2 or 3 them were successful (thing fixed, out the door fast). There's ALWAYS some issue or additional cost that is priced stupidly crazy and of course, the extended warranty won't cover it.
But with an indy shop... even if you know A LITTLE bit about the car... you'll save an easy 25% right off the bat and get literal labor and parts pricing versus "book" costs. |
