Do you use Start/Stop
Just curious, do you use Auto Start/Stop? I have been using mine pretty much all the time since I got my car 4 years ago, and I actually enjoy having it. However, now that I'm approaching 50k miles, should I be concerned about any potential engine and starter wear issues from the use of Start/Stop?
Appreciate your feedback. |

Yeah I've never turned mine off. So use it whenever it kicks in.
I don't have any worries about starters etc as my car is 5 years old soon with 21k miles. My dads car is 9 years old with start stop and 150k miles and no issues except he's needed a new battery.

I personally never use mine but also don't spend much time in heavy traffic so the benefits it offers me in terms of fuel economy are pretty negligible. On the off chance I accidentally turn it on, it definitely freaks me out when my car "dies" at a stop though!
Actually one of the things I really love about my bimmer compared to my dad's MB is that I can disable my start/stop and it remembers my preference - he has to shut his off every time! |

I have mine coded off by default. There's been a connection reported to the heavy use of it and the timing chain issues with the n20/6, so I don't even bother with it.

Don't use it. My experiments with it shows that it does not effect MPG in any way (based on my driving) so it is just an annoyance to me.

I have it turned off and it stays off. At least in my 2020 F32, once you turn it off, it does not reset every time you park the car. One time, I hit the button by mistake, reactivating it, and when my car shut down at a red light, I freaked for a second. Back off it went.

Mine's off. It's only of benefit in inner city driving, where you're sitting still as much as you're moving, places where even if I did live there I wouldn't drive. When I do visit Boston, New York and Montreal I park when I get there and don't touch the car again until I leave.

TIL there is someone out there who enjoys start-stop. Til now I'd only heard rumors of such a person existing.
I'm ever-thankful that B MW let us maintain the setting between vehicle starts. Not like our family car (Honda Pilot) where I had to install an online "idlestopper" device to achieve a default disable. |

Mines off. In Texas if you have your engine shut off you'll get cooked in your vehicle immediately

I turned it off. Start stop wears out the starter, which in a BMW is a PITA to swap out. You have to take off the intake manifold. Doable but it's a pain.
