Added Carplay to 2016 340i with Bimmer-Remote

Posting this for anyone looking to add Carplay to their F30.

For anyone else looking to add Carplay to their F30 I bought a software update from Bimmer-Remote that updated my iDrive to version 6 (from version 4) and it also added Carplay. You need a wifi antenna, OB2 to USB cable, and the software update itself was around $200. The update took a few hours and I wish I found out about this earlier. Overall very happy, some of the best money I've spent on my car.

Jakub made the install easy, would definitely purchase from them again.

Much appreciated. Definitely looking into getting this. Was really looking into getting this for my 16 340 as well. Question, does this include android auto as well?

android car play

Not sure what parts my audio dealer put in for my Car Play, but I love it. Unknown by him my Samsung automatically puts the car into Car Play (e.g. Google Maps) when I turn on the car, using blue tooth and wi-fi. It is easy to exit this video if you want the audio info on your screen, or if not the car still plays your audio. I have CDs stored and Sirius and don't want a streaming service.
If I plug the Samsung into the jack he installed, the audio channel of course goes away and only music on my Samsung phone can then be heard. (Which music I have installed but I prefer my car's audio settings as is.)

Dealer told me I would have to lose CDs and Sirius, but he failed to note the wi-fi connection which is video only and leaves my audio channel untouched.

Tempting

I'm almost tempted to do this myself if it works as intended. is the 2gb of RAM an issue with restarts? I heard it's a problem only if opening the OEM navigation.
Thank you!

I've had no issues so far, very happy with everything after a few weeks of using it. I never use the OEM navigation so I don't know if that causes an issue.

Is the wifi antenna required for everyone or depends on the car?

It was a MAJOR problem for me, however I understand it only affects a small amount of the earlier HUs. Doesn't matter whether you're using Carplay, stock NAVI or any other mode. Would randomly reboot at the worst time. I ended up buying a NBT EVO HU from a wrecked 2020 and Jakub flashed it for me. Now it's 100%. He's a good guy and stands by his service.
