EGR Recall - 335d

My (March 14 build) car is in for something else today, but when I dropped it off I was told that the recall notice is now there and they will be replacing whatever parts are required by the notice.

I suggest others may like to check again with their dealer if they are keen to get this done soon.

I wasn't aware of a recall for EGR, do you know what age cars it affects?

Just checked with my dealer - the recall (officially a "voluntary technical campaign") is official.

See BMW notice for models and production dates affected : https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...nical-campaign

EGR cooler, and possibly the EGR itself, will be replaced.

Sounds like a full software update would be required which can take more than one day in the workshop. That's going to mean that remapped cars will need the map reapplied.

The guy who bought my 335d has it booked in for Tuesday... I better let him know he'll lose the remap!

I'm hoping they can just change a part or 2 in a couple of hours while I wait, .. I have my car exactly how I want it regarding any coding and the remap so want to avoid a full software update ideally.

Same!

Redo Remap, Reverse Cam and EBT VO Coding plus all the other little tweaks and a list as long as my arm for the LCI tail-lights.....

Also still doesn't show as a recall on the .gov website either.....

Booked mine in. Free of charge even if out of warranty.

What is the "current Korean situation" mention on the press release?

I take that as meaning they have just encountered the same problem and implemented the same solution as in Korea.

It shouldn't very surprising that if they find 3 litre diesels catching fire due to a fault, that the same car in a different country has the same problem. BMW just like to ignore the problems for as long as they can until their hand is forced. Often they resolve problems in the USA first due to their litigious nature...

I wonder whether DMS would 'honour' a reinstall if you had a friendly word ?

Yes, I think there will be several of us in this position. The service desk was clear though - the new EGR/cooler will need to be coded-in. From experience that means BMW will do a full software update. PITA.

I think they will for 3 years, so I can imagine they'll say no. Unsure whether it's transferable to a new owner either.

I intend to ask if they can code the new part to the car without doing a full software update so They don't need my car for the whole day... Wish me luck.

Mine is due in for end of warranty check next Thursday. They mentioned the EGR when I booked it in. I have a load of coding and re-map.

Can anyone confirm 100% that this EGR safety recall will require a full software re-load and that it will wipe my coding and re-map.

Suppose I could call and tell them I have coding and if that would be affected. If they said yes then could I presume the map would go too. But if they say no the coding will not be affected, then could I presume that means the map too?

Correct, If it doesn't affect the coding it shouldn't affect the remap either. Ask if they need to do a full software update or not.. because a full update will wipe both.

Can I assume that as this affects 6 cylinder diesel cars with production dates between July 2012 and June 2015 mine, registered Sept 2015, should not be affected?

Recently had 'final check' prior to warranty expiry and no mention of this problem by the dealer.

Should be fine. July 2012 to September 2015 are the officially stated dates.

I would still check the build date unless you ordered the car new. Some of them, pre-reg etc do sit around for a while.

Just look at the metal plate on the drivers door jamb which tells you when the car was built .
