Registered and built aren’t the same thing.

My M140 was built in July but I held off registration until 3rd Sept for the new plate.

My current 335d was built 08/2014 but registered in sept. (And in the recall)

Best to check.

So mine is now booked-in to be sorted. Slightly worrying that the chap on the service desk seemed to have no idea what the recall was about - he tried to tell me there was absolutely no risk of fire and the fault only causes cars to go into limp-home mode - but I couldn't be bothered to argue; providing it's all rectified I'll be happy!

Annoyingly mine was only in on Friday last week and it wasn’t mentioned. I rang dealer yesterday and they said yes it was due so going back in. Amazingly got a courtesy car!!!
They want it for two days due to coding however were less clear on what will be replaced. Mines already had an egr cooler about 18 months ago so obviously won’t be the revised part so will be changed I’m sure. Does the egr itself get changed?? 🤞🏻

+1 no idea if the recoding was done when my EGR cooler was replaced. Also, I paid for mine to be done as it was out of warranty, surely I should be due a refund??

I got a call last week that my car had to go in to be checked for this. Went today and was told it would be a 2 to 3 hrs job. Got them to take me home and 5 mins after I get home (25 mins after dropping it off) I get a call saying parts need to be ordered...WTF. So I go back to be told I'll get a call when they arrive. Being a bit suspicious that the car was in exactly the same place I left it, I thought I'd check the dash cam which goes into time lapse mode after 5 mins of the ignition going off. Absolutely nobody touched the car! So they've managed to waste my day and used my fuel .
Why did they get me in if they don't have the parts?

I had mine done without coding and update but I do have a mate at bmw this was before the recall it’s cost me £100. They honoured the repair parts etc car was out of warranty

Interesting, was sure the issues I had on all but the softest DMS map was EGR related, too late now and I have no idea who the new owner is but would have been taking it back to try aggressive mode again if I still had it!

A few have said the dealer will need to perform a full software update - I don’t know what that means. Does it mean my F30 2014 iDrive system will get updated software too? I update maps very so often but not the operating system.

The software update relates to integrating new components such as a new EGR into the car, and any quality enhancements (software patches) that BMW has released.

The iiDrive won't be fundamentally amended, i.e. going from V4 to V5 or V5 to V6.

Interesting, my dealer only wants my car for a day and are also going to replace the front discs and pads while they've got the car in for the EGR recall work. Not sure what's involved with the coding but if it does indeed take more than a day - which sounds OTT to me - I'm not clear how my dealer can do all the work required in a day?!

Two days for coding?!?!? Do they still only have an Amstrad?

Mine was supposedly done yesterday, picked up at 10 ready by 16:20, whilst being serviced.

I think they are just allowing a buffer in case of a problem. I did push them on the timescales but as they have a courtesy car I’d rather they get it done right rather than push it.

I've had two EGRs replaced under warranty on my 2015 318d. Both time they updated the software which took about 5 hours. After getting the new software I got Siri enabled on the speach button. I have no nav so it didn't work when I bought the car.

So do you think remaps will be written over?

Yep. Remap would need to be reapplied.

Ryan seems to suggest it is possible to switch the parts without a full software update though?

There's also a difference between coding a part to the car and performing a full ecu software update too remember, ..only the latter would wipe the remap etc.

Hopefully that'll be the case but when my car had a software update, especially one that I'm told by the dealer will take "hours and possibly overnight", the map was wiped. If the EGR can be coded without a full update I'll be happy.
