He's got gard x and gap in there as well, if I want them removed it brings it down by £7 a month which seems half what it should be. I know the guy is very keen, as am I, but we are both away tomorrow so I will risk it bubbling over to Friday... then I am gonna ask for a service pack to be chucked in

8k miles, tho low, is fine for me. I won't clock 32k over 4 years, and I may even pay the balloon at the end if I still love it, we did it for our family car recently as it's going to be ours for at least another 5 years.

Wonder what it's true sale value looks like at the end, above or below 15800?

Not even sure how much GardX and Gap are but I bet it's a few hundred!
Shytner tried to charge me £730 for GAP on a £40k car - bought from Frank Pickles for £200 instead.

The stealers say GardX is worth about £500 when in truth it is worth about £50 at the most.

does it matter if the overall cost is still very low? Might end up cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Do you mean in relation to gard x and gap? It's £1400 of products based on the quote he gave and he's saying it reduces by £7 a month over 47 months if I remove it which is pure rubbish. I'm very close to doing the deal with them but I expect the full amount to be removed not £300 of it.

When the rest of the deal is that good I think you need to cut them some slack, it is an incredible deal overall!

I agree to an extent but the gap and gard is being presented as "we won't do the deal without them" when they are entirely optional extras rather than part of finance and should be scrutinised under FCA rules. I'd happily pay this price now if it was for the service pack inclusive or something I see as real value.

If they the need to do that to sell the car to you that cheap then roll with it imo, definitely looks like you want to cut off your nose to spite your own face. £429pm is virtually free!!

If it’s a low deposit on a PCP why care about residuals?

Not sure how you got 750 a month? Do you mean with buying out the gmfv at the end?

Because at the end it would be great if there was equity left in the car, thus taking the overall monthly cost down if you sold it at the end. Also with a low deposit you can keep money in the bank to work for you. Just trying to be smart at both ends, when smart is a 50k car at rrp

Erm, at 0% interest why are you putting in a deposit at all? It's actually costing you money to do it as your £2k could be earning you money elsewhere?

The salesman will get commission for selling the crap add-ons. £1400 is insane when you can get the car professionally detailed with a machine polish and a ceramic coating for £500 and gap for £200.

Send him a gap insurance quote and say you are happy to buy from him but need a significantly improved price.

It's the trade in on my old car. I've currently got a busted leg and no desire to sell it for an extra 500 privately and not got the space for them all on the drive!

That's my draft email sorted. I don't mind the two products if they come down to realistic prices. What I don't like is being told removing them reduces the monthlies by £7 when it should be more like £25-£28 based on the prices they are invoicing me for them. I'd just like to see a bit less smoke and mirrors and being told they are key to the deal being discounted is just not true.

The deal is great, but it doesn't mean I'm ever paying top whack for a dealer's gap and paint protection.

I've got a long term view with this car, past four years, but if circumstances change then I've done the maths to ensure this is low risk, but I appreciate what you are saying

We bought the family car at the end of three years and will keep that for a decade. Another 0% apr big discount job but only a Ford so not a lot of money to start with.

They can give you the £2k back in cash if you trade it in, you don't have to stick it in the car and I personally wouldn't when it's 0% finance.

Oh like a cheque for it instead of just taking it as the deposit? Good call.

When interest rates are so low I never put in a deposit.

I paid £1000 deposit to secure my factory order last time, but they refunded it as soon as I picked up the car.
