Buying an ex lease car

I’ve come across a 2016 66 reg 335d touring which I’m interested in, would anyone be put off buying a car which was an ex lease car??

It’s an M Sport plus with 30k miles on, serviced once at BMW at 23k miles in April this year, does that sound about right??

it has the brown merino extended leather interior but I’m not sure of the colour of the actual car, , I can’t make my mind up from the pics exactly what colour it is, it’s advertised as beige which isn’t what I’d call it, pics were taken inside so I’ve requested pics taken with the car out in the open.

Does the x drive system need an oil change?? If so what’s the intervals.

It looks a nice car, only thing it hasn’t got which I wanted was a pano roof, but it’s not a deal breaker.

The car is a fair distance away so I’m trying to ask as much about it as I can before making the journey to see it.

The car is up for 23,750, how does the price sound??

TIA for any help

Ex leased 335d Touring here so I opened your thread to see if it was my old car, which it isnt

Mine was handed back a few weeks ago in excellent condition but I suspect many lease cars are treated as hire cars and/or company cars. What would concern me is that I would not have used launch control nearly as much as I did if the car was my own and I was keeping it out of warranty......

Mileage shouldn't be an issue. Usually means that it's largely motorway use and has been maintained. Service around 23k also fits (my mileage and driving profile has given a similar service interval on two 335D's). Is it from a main dealer?

No it’s from a car supermarket which isn’t how I’d normally buy a car, but the fact it’s still got manufacturer warranty remaining is what’s telling me it should be ok to buy.

The colour is jacaro beige, I need to see pics with the car outside to see what it looks like with the interior.

The fact it’s a lease car & from a supermarket is making me cautious.

Never knew about launch control, concerning me even more now.

Surely a large proportion of cars (of any make) are leased. Even a lot of the low mileage 6-9 month old AUC cars have been leased to their employees so I wouldnt worry too much.
A car supermarket will give you minimal service and wont repair anything minor eg wheel scuffs, slight bumper scrape etc and most will often only allow a preset test drive so you get limited time to actually drive it.
But as you have manufacturers warranty I wouldnt be too worried as long as the servicing has been done on time and properly recorded.
If you're saving a couple of grand then maybe just put it straight into a BMW dealer for a service for peace of mind and you'll still be ahead

This isn't a bad source. https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk

At the least, you get a good idea of prices and mileages that are around.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, a lot of drivers, especially those driving leased cars for companies, have no idea that launch control even exists.

Plus, seen a lot of threads on here where people seem to be worried about it, but yet to see anyone reporting faults or parts failing due to launch control.

Personally I wouldn't even think about it.

I’d already told myself that not to expect much in the way of customer service from a car supermarket, they’re not my normal source to buy a car but this one seems quite well priced. I’m going to call a bmw dealer I’ve dealt with previously to see if they can give me any info on the car & have service history checked out.

I understand that all used cars have a past & as you say the remaining warranty does give me peace of mind. A fella I work with has a BMW staff car as his wife works for BMW, he’s got a 520d M Sport at the moment, used to change every 9 months but they e recently changed to every 6 months now, BMW must want more AUC cars into the network.

I’ve asked for a video of the car to be sent to me & also highlight any scrapes or knocks however small. The car is 200 miles away & Ive told him I won’t be impressed if they waste my time making turn up to a car they haven’t been honest about.

Thanks, if it didn’t have a warranty still running I’d probably be giving the car a wide berth.

I’m curious now about the colour combo of the car & the interior, tried google images to find a match but no luck.

Where abouts is it located? I'm sure a fellow forum member not far from it would give it the once-over for you...

Any excuse to go look at shiny metal

Good idea, it’s located in Hessle which is near Hull.

I wouldn't worry about a lease car. I don't think a PCP car is treated much differently. The chances a car has an unsympathetic owner is likely much the same regardless.

Also, if the bodywork looks ok then I wouldn't worry about the mechanicals as more is likely to go wrong through random failure, than as a consequence of how a car was used. Especially on such a new car.

Besides, there's still manufacturers warranty on it.

I’ve just had the spec sheet through for the car, it mentions sat Nav but doesn’t state business or pro, I’m under the impression that as it’s an M Sport plus car that it would have pro Nav, am I right in thinking that?

Colour also confirmed as champagne quartz, individual colour apparently.

The price of the car was £41,390 with £3,720 worth of options added, making total of £45,110, does the £500 vehicle tax apply to a 66 reg car as it’s over the £40k rrp?

Mechanically you will be covered under the warranty. The condition of the car and how it drives will give you an indication to buy or walk away. Trust your gut instinct.

Get the VIN and run it through a decoder for the full spec.

As others have said, make sure that you check it over for the usual cosmetic issues as you are miles away from the dealer and it will be a hassle getting things done after purchase.

I bought BMW AUC in the past and it turned out to be an insurance company courtesy car. I didn’t know this at the time, but it was a good car.

No, the start date was April 2017 for that.

My car is an ex lease, came to me at 3 and a bit years old, 77k full BMW service history having just had the big service inc discs and pads all round and new Conti's all round. Pretty much immaculate condition, in fact the best condition 2nd hand car I've ever bought. 7k miles in and not a hint of a problem yet.

Thanks for all the replies, my mind has been put at ease about the car being from a lease company, if I get a good follow up video showing the car in good condition I’ll head up & see it and take it from there.

Is anyone able to confirm if the car would have pro Nav as it’s an M Sport plus model?? The spec sheet just says satellite navigation & I haven’t had a reply to my email asking for the VIN so I can check.

Does anyone on here have a 3 series in champagne quartz with extended cohiba brown merino leather interior?? Would love a pic if anyone has it plz
