HUD Position Adjust

Hi All,

LCI F30 here with quite annoying HUD.

The HUD display is almost at the very left edge of the HUD BOX section, which means if Im slightly leaned over on the centre armrest I can only see partial display, The speed limit is cut in half. So in order to fully view it, I need to be dead on in the centre.

The only options in iDrive for adjustment are Up&Down, Angle rotation and brightness.

Its like a dream to me that in E series, there was also an option to slide left and right..?

Can this be coded or changed?

Many Thanks

Don't think so buddy... Nav and other warning messages fill up the right half so when you have more stuff going on in the HUD you'll see there's not much lateral space left over

No left/right adjustment to my knowledge either.

Can't say I've ever noticed part of the display being hidden, so you must be hitched over quite a bit in your seat.

I had that issue if I leaned over to the left, no adjustment though other than yourself.

I’ll take a pic to show. Regardless of what info is there, the display is way over to the left.. when you look straight into, its not even centred with the steering wheel.

Anyways, I found out a way on how to adjust it.

Theres a tech info if customer complains about HUD position, and the horizontal position can be adjusted in ISTA.
So I’ll give this a bash next week.

Thanks

I've never had that issue in the 2 cars I've owned with HUD. Always been centred above the steering wheel. Glad you've got a fix though

Here it is the actual HUD image.
You can see how far to left is the projection in relation to the HUD background. Even with all the nav/phone info, there still about an inch left to the right..

My F31 is very similar to this.

With my head absolutely dead centre of the headrest, I can see all the display, but I must naturally sit slightly to the left of centre, as it's border line most of the time. If I close my right eye, the speed limit display gets cut in half, so my left eye can't see the entire image.

As you said, the entire HUD display is way over to the left of the available display area, and the digital speed reading is several inches left of the steering wheel /dash top. I can live with it, but if it can be adjusted to the right, it would be much better.

Looking through the ISTA+ software, there's all sorts of adjustments available for the HUD, but it's not completely clear if left to right is one of them. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll connect it to the car and see what's available.

Yep, same with me, if I lean slightly to the left on the centre arm rest (which I frequently do), I lose part of the HUD image, it's annoying.

Just hooked up to the car, and I can adjust the shape and rotation of the HUD display, but I can't adjust the left/right position. It's just not an option that BMW have provided unfortunately. Not in software at least.

What did you do to adjust the left right position though ?

All those options appear to be shape correction rather than position.

This looks like a plan, how do I get this or to this option?

You'll need a laptop with BMW ISTA/D or ISTA+ (kind of the same thing) software installed. That and an ENET cable to connect to the OBD port on the car.

Thank you, will any cable work?

Any ENET cable should work. It will have a regular 16 pin OBD connector on one and an RJ45 Ethernet connector on the other. Mine came from eBay for not much money.

Vertical and horizontal adjustment. You can play with it before you save the setting.

It moves to the side, and I havent notice any shape changes. It must be just for visualization purposes I guess.

Just had another look at my car, and the 'Vertical or Horizontal Distortion' adjustments just change the shape of the HUD display. Nothing moves the actual position of the display to the right.

When I enter the adjustment mode, the HUD display changes to a blue rectangle. All the adjustments I tried just stopped it being a rectangle.

Exactly the same issue in my F16. What's the verdict, can position be adjusted horizontally, or is the above just for geometry changes?

I had to adjust my posture, I now sit bolt upright.
