Probably not....however when ever your computer is updated it's also reset. It will take time for it to learn... if it was recent I would say it's that ... give it some time to learn..

I have the mppsk and some times my car doesn't snap crackle and pop if I nanny drive it for a while.... I beat on it some it comes back... the bitch needs a beating to snap her back into shape... slap her around some and see if she perks up...

Another possibility is going from high flow to restriction putting back the cat.... the computer has adjusted probably radically..... maybe you need to reset it for it learn again (maybe the dealer did not reset the computer)... disconnect the batter for > 30 minutes ... reconnect and let it learn again using the proper motivation described above...

That made the sound even more incredible but long story short, I got it removed a week later because it was too loud and I hated the smell etc..

I don't remember the order of events, but I am at 9k miles now and since I got my DP removed, the car has been in for service once or twice. For some reason, ever since I got the DP removed or ever since I brought it in for service after I got it removed, the car never makes those gunshot noises and it barely crackles above 3k RPM in sport when going hard on the throttle or when doing anything really. It's pretty disappointing. I have friends who got 340s at around the same time as me with exhaust mods too and their cars still make crazy noises like mine used to and im sure some of yours do as well.

Could it be because of a software update that the dealer did or is it something to do with my putting the downpipe on and then taking it off? Or something else?

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!

a theory:

the vehicle does not exactly run right the second you get your exhaust installed. from that point on, the ECU must slowly adjust fuel/ignition timing and "learn" your new exhaust. this means that the car could have been running a little too rich from the beggining and you hear fuel burning off as a result. once the ECU adjusts, sound is gone.

I recommend getting a catted downpipe and putting your stock exhaust system back on. or if you still have the catless DP, put a high flow race cat somewhere in your system and then upgrade your axle-back if you want more sound. some sort of high flow cat will get rid of almost all the smell. if you smelled it often, it could have meant a gasket leak.

I'm telling you this because if you want pops, you need to have as little cat restriction as possible. A catless downpipe with full exhaust system is way too loud for some tastes though.

But I just find it odd how I have at least 3 friends with the same exact cars as me with different exhaust set ups and all of their cars do the crazy crackling except mine. It seemed to have stopped doing all the crazy pops and crackles right after I brought it in for service, which seemed odd to me.

Thanks for the insight!
it takes the ECU 350 miles to fully adjust. full throttle pulls help with this.

perhaps it points at something else? what is your current setup?

downpipe with full exhaust system and no resonator must sound like ass lol. I'd recommend going back to your catless downpipe and keeping the rest of your exhaust system stock. the sound level should be perfect for you and you'll get some crackles. alternatively, upgrading your axle-back muffler to something high flow like remus with the downpipe will be loud, but the crackles will sound sick!

as for why your exhaust doesnt crackle and your friends does? hard to say. there are a lot of different reasons why. try downshifting with all your windows down, no touching the throttle yet and listen carefully - you should hear some light burbling. it should crackle once you back off the throttle after aggressive revving as well.

cheers!

Thats weird man... my car will go into little episodes where it wont do the pops but it always comes back after a minute or so. Does it burble at all? or just no bangs?

Hm thats weird. Maybe try leaving it in comfort and no high RPMs the entire warm up process and once its fully warmed up try some downshifts in sport. It usually takes a few to get her going though.

Mine always burbles. It's really noticeable in a parking garage, where every lift off the throttle bounces the burbles off the walls.

For me, the pops are broken up 2 ways:
1. The really loud singular or double "pop". The exhaust must be fully warmed up and I haven't done any high revs for a bit.
2. The quieter multiple "pops" are there around 4-5k RPMs. Definitely more of them although much quieter than a 6.5k RPM throttle lift off.

I have the AWE catback if that makes a difference. No downpipe.

You have to put one cup of rice krispies in the gas tank after every maintenance.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

What gas are you using? I have the mppsk and have noticed when i only use 91 octane it doesn't pop like it does when I use 93 or 94 octane.

I recently put in the jb+ and immediately noticed that I lost all my nice exhaust sounds. No pop, burble or bangs.

However, last few days have turned the dial on the jb+ to maximum and not only are the sounds back but now it's even louder and comes on more frequently than when the car was stock. Love it now! Just hope it remains this way.

I noticed that too when I switched keyfobs that it did not snap crackle and pop like with the other key fob. So this is evidence it needs time to relearn and I should drive more aggressively to bring it back. I need to slap that ass lol. Or just go back to the other key fob though I like the other settings with this one.

Does unplugging the battery reset it as well?

Thanks,
