Total Loss or repairable?

Got into a crash the other and the other driver was at fault, damage to rear & front bumper, hood, quarter panel, doors, mirror, interior door trim. Most of these parts could be replaced but the biggest damage is on the wheel. Would insurance just total it if there's structural damage? I also have individual leather interior so it'll take a while to get replacement parts for that.

Not 100%, but from the looks of it, the whole drivers side needs replacing. I would think that would be totaled, sad to say. Not sure though. Hopefully they can fix it but it looks expensive.

Keep us posted.

Very, very high probability this car is deemed a total loss.

I hope not, insurance wouldn't even pay out good for it because they don't know it's a 1 of 50 MPE

I agree. The odds are high it will be totaled. Did any airbags other than the curtain airbag deploy?

Yep no other airbags deployed besides that.
Also the glass didn't shatter from the crash but the tow people broke it when they were trying to access the hood release

They'd know it's 1 of 50 when you tell them it is. It's not on them to know every nuance of every last manufacturer.

Agree with others - very likely totalled. You could try to buy it out after they total the car and fix it yourself. You will have a salvage title but you might come out ahead by a couple grand. It's too much work for me but I don't know your capabilities.

I had a very similar accident to this around 3-4 months ago, but with even less damage.

My car was totaled. Sorry about your ride man.

Check the photos from my thread:

Sorry to see you in this situation OP, but glad you're out safe. It's totaled. If it wasn't for the rear quarter damage and the airbags, I would say insurance might repair it.

You might want to get an independent appraiser to ensure the payout is high as possible given the rarity of the car. But I recommend you take the money and find a new unicorn.

Excuse my ignorance but is the MPE so rare that it raises the value of the car by any significant amount? I mean anyone can get this part without too much effort.

It seems that insurance companies total lots of F30 based on local salvage auction listings.

I think any repair estimate more than $10k-$12k is a trigger of total loss write-off in CA(and IL too) with TLF, as the salvage value of F30 with ZF 8AT + N26(e.g.) is probably $7k+ right now.

In OP's case, the left rocker panel is not pushed in, but there likely is frame damage behind front door, and cutting front aperture out by itself is likely $12k+.

because they want to share what happened and start a dialogue with those who have already been through it

I don't think he's referring to an exhaust. MPE as in M-Performance Edition if I'm not mistaken.

For what it's worth - the car probably would never be the same with any repair.

Always negotiate whatever buy out they give you. Market prices are high - they should be able to give you enough money to put you into another vehicle of the exact same specifications. So if you have a rare version they should be paying to get you into another used rare version. They WILL lowball you...

Should this be repaired - start telling and reminding them that they will have significant DIMISHED VALUE claims due to the extreme damage. Your car will be worth a lot less after a repair, since the repair will on your carfax and it will have "airbags deployed" listed as well.

Personally I would cut my losses and hope it's totaled. Make sure to add up EVERY PENNY that you spent on the car for modifications. There should be a "car price" and then an amount they will give for your add-ons. They will likely try and tell you it's not covered... but remember ... "IF NOT FOR YOUR CLIENTS NEGLIGENCE, THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT" (i hope the other drive is being deemed 100% fault and was ticketed...)

glad you weren't hurt - that's what matters the most.

I actually have a bunch of mods, my plan was to go and take them out from the car if insurance totals it. It's waiting for estimate at body shop right now.

They reimburse full value of the mods?

Few I have are

Dinan springs (probs can't take out)
Dinan CAI
TU Hpfp
M4 CS style Tail lights
$1.2k AZA auto steering wheel
BM3 flex fuel kit
Carbon fiber ECS Strut bar

These are worth the most imo.

they wont want to replace any of it. but since you are not at fault the company is obligated to make you whole. They should pay out total cost. Note though if they do it's now theirs to do what they wish.

Gonna show them similar MPE in Canada and tell them to reimburse me the same amount then.

Did you tell your insurance company that you modified your car with aftermarket parts? If not, it means fk all that the parts were on the car. They are under zero obligation to replace your extra parts even if damaged, since those parts were never technically insured.
