Having seen so many rod bolt failures (across numerous car brands) from my amateur road racing days, I'm inclined to just swap the rod bolts, if that is possible. I still have not investigated if it is possible to drop the oil pan without removing the engine.

I've got 182K miles on my N20 and have a plan to replace the motor mounts and turbo in the next few weeks. And possibly the rod bolts, if it's not too much extra work...
Just doing rod bolts is a fairly popular choice with the guys who run big turbos on the N20. ARP makes a good set.

Off topic but... 182k How has your N20 held up with that many miles? Original timing chain?

Yes, 182K miles and climbing. Never opened the engine or replaced a single gasket. Original timing chain, original water pump, and original coolant!!!

I checked and I have the newer timing chain guide design, so I have not had any issues and have no plans to change it at this time.

Gonna go for the MHI Turbo, but will not raise the boost level. May add Snow WMI Kit to lower temps and help engine live FOREVER!

And if it blows, I'll grab a used one and do it all over again...

Wow, that's incredible and great to hear!

MHI is a great option. Very complete, direct bolt-on turbo kit, and should come with a new header and waste gate. Good choice
