Drone

Had a drone on my Touring for about 3 weeks. Comes on at about 75mph, and is loud to the point of modifying my driving style.

At first I thought it was a wheel bearing, however the behaviour was not consistent with that.

It seemed to get worse in a cross wind or strong head wind.

Had a look underneath, there are two sections of undertray that overlap just behind the rear of the front wheel arch on the near side. One of the undertray lips was very slightly downturned in comparison to the driver's side.

Used a bulldog clip to bring the two lips together. Drone gone.

This car never fails to amaze me with its ability to generate incredibly annoying noises from seemingly insignificant sources (I'm looking at you, door pins).

Took me until halfway down the post to realise we weren't talking about a flying type of drone.

I've had my car into the local dealer several times for the exact same problem and they can't seem to fix it permanently...I'm on the motorway a lot, so the noise is really annoying when cruising!

Any chance of some pictures so I can try to explain the problem (again) to my dealer?

My F30 is only 12 months old so I really don't want to have to resort to self fixing or taking to an indy...

I also got the Teflon fix done for creaking doors recently and they managed to put the tape in the wrong place (on the bodywork below the shadowline trim instead of on it) so the creaking is no better

I really do despair with the quality of the techs at some/most of the dealers

Nearside front, looking through the rear of the wheelarch. Red clip is where I have joined the two bits of undertray together.

Our US spec RWD F30 doesn't look quite like that on the driver's side, which would be the equivalent to the British "nearside". I'll check the passenger side later just in case the underbody pieces are different LHD to RHD.
