BMW M Performance Limited Slip Differential
I been thinking about purchasing the BMW M Performance Limited Slip Differential. Has anyone upgraded? Curious to know feedback if its worth it and if you had to change around some parameters or simply plug and play. It's a bit pricey a little over $2000, but the installation appears to be a joke. I wish they offered the ZHP on all 340's lol.

I don't track, otherwise I'd probably upgrade to the new G20 M340i that comes standard with the LSD. I'm also xDrive so this option isn't available for me.
But yeah, probably only worth it if you track.

People claim it can be installed on xDrive vehicles even thought BMW says otherwise.
And it makes sense since the new G20 M340i xDrive also has a LSD |

ive had the LSD in a M235i and M240i, and loved it. I kind of want to add it to my F30 but having a tough time swallowing $2500. However, I can be persuaded haha

Did you need any sort of coding or just install and enjoy? Since you had it twice it must be well worth it right?

I think about it from time to time. At ~400 WHP, it definitely has its merits. Car gets too squiggly off the line.

I can positively guaranty you it will not go on a '16 340 xDrive, dealer had mine apart before confirming RWD and xDrive use different axles.

Ive been looking into getting the LSD too, but I'm not sure how much locking it really provides, and what type (assuming clutch style?). I'm looking to have a similar experience as my old e92 M3 (diff-wise that is) which was fully locking. Anybody know?

You feel a difference when you launch the car and take quick turns? It would be nice if this diff also helps with drifting.

Definitely much stickier at launch and cornering is improved and more fun. I have not really drifted the car to comment. Prior to the LSD, the rear end got a little squirrelly when hammering the gas with the additional power from the tune. The LSD plus the Michelin PS4S non-runflats made a difference.

As I mentioned in a thread I opened a few months back, I asked the head engineer at the BMW dealership if any coding was done when installing and he said no. It made me a little bit worried given that our fellow member 3toAgree had mentioned in my own thread that his did have coding performed. I've noticed that certain things can be different between American spec and Euro spec BMW's though, (mine is Euro spec) so that could -possibly- account for the difference. As for whether to get it or not, if you have the opportunity, do it. I don´t think you will regret it. The car just feels more fun.- |

Curious, how much did the local dealer charge you for install and how many hours did they say the install took? |

Also took a long time to install. Dropped it off Monday morning, got it back Wednesday at noon. I had heard it should be a 3 hour install, but what can I say? Things are different here in Guatemala. haha |
