Auto Dimming Mirror - Disabling?

As title, since I got my tints I've realised that I may want to disable my auto dimming mirror, is that possible?

How have other adapted to the limited vision?

Maybe putting a sticker over the sensor would work?

suggest you look at fuse diagram and see whether there is a dedicated auto-dimming rear view mirror fuse - if not, then open the mirror and disconnect wiring? but will this affect alarm? as alarm light is on RVM?

sticker / tape over sensor front sensor makes the mirror think it is night (dark) at front, therefore dims in daylight. i don’t think taping over the rear facing sensor would mane a difference as the in daylight the mirror will not be dipped anyway.

How does it detect the headlights of the car behind then?

there is a front and rear element to the sensor - if it is bright to the front and bright to the rear then it won’t tint (e.g. daylight)
I don’t know how it would work if it were bright to the front and dark to the rear.

i had a problem with my e91 RVM not dipping on a trip to london when a van was behind me on the M1 - i spent a while playing with tape in the daylight to check it worked properly. There were a lot of oncoming headlights making it bright to the front as well as to the rear. even though it was dark out
bu incrementally blocking the front sensor on the mirror with tape in daylight i was progressively able to get the mirror to dim, so it must look at the contrast with light to front to light from the rear to decide when to dim. (by using a rear light sensor) in the rear of the mirror (black dot)
what i was getting at was that the rear window and back window tints may limit the light into the car enough to screw with the auto dim function - i don’t know as i can’t test what the effect would be of cutting out all light to rear and keeping all light into front (as it is dark outside! ) i could check tomorrow tho- or as suggested, if there is a dedicated fuse - pull it.

I would love to know, my tints are ideal for driving with.. But when the mirror dims it may be to dark, not really tried it yet.

I will look for a fuse, but surely this will affect the alarm?

i’ve no idea - sorry - just speculating - it may make no difference to the alarm if all it is is a flashing light - but worth investigating.
