They do, just not every second. I think 7 ticks per second is quite normal. You can hear them if you put it close to your ear.
Mechanical watches don’t have a totally smooth second hand, but appear to sweep. They just have more steps per second, so it looks like a sweep. If you want totally smooth seconds, you need to look at Grand Seiko spring drive watches. |

Hahaha a sweeping statement (get it). Plenty of nice watches out there, I'm no longer 8n the market for a Rolex anyways.

Are these replies a wind up?
😛 I meant for the non-sweeping ones do they accurately, precisely point to the second markers. I’ve had watches in the past where even the “12 o’clock position” isn’t dead on the marker, which annoyed me! I like the Grand Seiko. Not in the market for a while yet though. Got a Garmin Vivoactive 4S at Christmas. Pleased with it and the size on my small wrist - but some of the text is quite small - anyone know if the small text size is bigger on the 4? |

Mechanical watches do “tick” but depending on their quality will tick in smaller increments giving the impression of a smoother continuous sweep. Some manufacturers take the view that the second hand shows that you are “in” the n th second, rather than “at” the n th second as time is continuous. Some are just misaligned! |

Same here - on the mark exactly. The 2nd hand sweeps but looks like it judders very slightly if you study it closely. Casual glance it seems to just sweep.

Quartz watches tick once a second to conserve battery life. Mechanical watches "tick", usually 6, 8, or 10 times (that is, the escapement swings back and forwards that number of times). It's not silky smooth, there is a bit of a stutter to the movement.
You can also get mechanical watches which have "dead seconds" or "true seconds" where a special section forces the second hand to move once per second (even though the escapement is still doing it's normal speed). Both in regard to these watches and quartz watches, ticking on the marker doesn't seem to be a priority. And, as mentioned, if you want a really smooth sweep to your second hand, Grand Seiko spring drive is the way to go. (But have a look at Frederique Constant Monolithic line, it does a smooth sweep as well, without spring drive - though it isn't as accurate as spring drive) |

Fitted a deployment clasp to the Bremont MB11 , suits it better than the standard buckle fitment.
Been looking at the Pelagos FXD with interest , so whats the story with them as i cant seem to find any new ones online , they all ask to register your interest ? Are Tudor playing playing the same restricting availability games as Rolex now ?? K |

Some dealers wanted a deposit to guarantee a wait list position, one wanted full payment up front. In the end I waited 3 months before a dealer I had no history with was able to offer me one. When I went in and spoke to them they were of the opinion that the demand simply outweighed the stock allocation/supply. So not the same as what Rolex do IMO but simply the market at the time. The Pelagos FXD is a relatively new and very well received release so is likely going through the same initial surge in demand. But I'm no expert in these matters : |

My brother walked into a shop in Norwich and got a Pelagos LHD the same day. But it's where he got his Rolex GMT so may be combination of luck and they know him. My wife got her Tudor on the day from Chisholm Hunter (Black Bay 32 S&G). On the other hand, I ordered new Panda Chrono in May. Paid deposit and was told it was a 12 month wait. I've heard stock is very slow - and I know the AD. Although Tudor is sister company of Rolex, it doesnt command the over inflated resale value due to limited supply. However, there are rumours that they are starting to limit supply of some watches (ie Panda Chrono) but as demand lowers, supply will be ok. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else! |

So I sent back my Epix2 but the store refused it as it had been registered with Garmin. Anyone on here interested in buying? Only used for one walk, so is like new. It's the titanium sapphire model. Boxed etc

The Tudor GMT was in short supply when I ordered mine. Goldsmith's at Braehead told me I'd be a year if not 2 before I got one. Went to Laing's in Argyle Arcade, paid a small deposit and had it in under 3 months. Now, you can walk in to most places and pick one up out the window. I'd wholly recommend Laing's, I used the smaller boutique nearer the Buchanan St end, not the main shop. The girl I dealt with was called Louise from memory. Folk then moved on to the blue face BB and that was limited supply, but only for the first 6-12 months. The Pelagos FXD will no doubt be similar. Early uptake and short supply but improving over time. The Panda Chrono seems to be the only thing still in short supply |
