Coding - "Simple"

Just bought myself a new laptop and planned to do some coding when I get chance. Seen loads of people on here who have done it and say its "simple" and straight forward etc. I've been reading through some how-to instructions and at first it was like rocket science!! I've looked into it a little bit more and found a good step by step guide with pictures etc.

It still doesn't look as straight forward as I expected though! Anyone else find it difficult or does it look harder than it is? Looks like it'll take quite a while to download all the data for it too!

Does anyone want me to upload the step by step guide I found? It's very well made and will help anyone wanting to code. It's not my work at all, I've simply saved if from another forum where a member has created it.

I have done a lot of coding on my E90, which at first was the same, looked like rocket science! But now i can do it with my eyes close, almost!

F30 coding looks a fair bit easier, especially setting up the software, which i have already done, which was a lot easier than E90! And the GUI on F30 is much more modern and straight forward looking!

So just dive in and you'll be doing it without thinking before you know it! But whatever you do, DO NOT click the 'code defaults' button! It will brick your car, and it will have to be put on a trailer to the dealers!!!

Teaston, didn't you post up a link to a suitable cable for coding with? Someone further up this thread just asked for a cable to use.

Yeah, I have to agree this is probably the best coding guide I have found. There are few "cheat sheets" kicking about which show what code does what, basically.

I think you can make a cable for about £3, if you are handy with a soldering iron.

Someone posted up on here a while ago about it (use the search!!!!!).

You need a ODBII connector a resistor and a bit of old UTP network cable I believe!

funny part is, coding is actually really simple. its an easy step by step process. after you do it once, you've got it.

its getting set up thats the hard confusing part. getting the software, installing it, getting the wire, putting it all together

Pm @shawnsheridan or ask him on this thread:

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696777

He will give you links to the reduced size files which are about 6gb rather than nearly 30gb!
