Calliper colour

Hey all

Looking to colour my callipers while I'm getting the wheels refurbed. Not looking for them to stand out. Just have them looking neater.

It's a glacier silver gran coupe. And I'm having the wheels refinished in the original colour of the spokes all over. No diamond cut as they won't last as is now with lacquer lifting.

Any ideas on calliper colour ?

Shall I match with glacier silver ? Or gloss black?

Any help or examples shown will be appreciated.

I went with a DIY kit in blue. Not the same colour as the blue M Sport brakes closer to the blue in the BMW badge and I think looks good with silver. Definitely better than standard grey callipers.

Red calipers are always in fashion and work well with Glacier Silver.

Nice pics guys. Just don't want it to stand out too much.

Red is an option I think.

Any others with examples with the m sport 19"'s?

Did you do the back brakes as well? If so do you have any pics?

@CJF30

What DIY kit did you use?

Did you paint them on the car or remove first?

Nice job, looks good

Cheers. It was just a cheap e-tech kit off eBay with a brush and brake cleaner. I didn’t really have high hopes but the standard callipers were letting the look of the car down. It is possible to achieve a decent finish but the key is decent prep and take your time. I did 2 coats with the callipers on the car - just jacked up one side, removed the wheels and masked anything I didn’t want to paint. Be particularly careful around the bleed nipples which can be prone to cease up. I didn’t paint right up to them for that reason but you can’t tell unless you get very close.

Anywhere you don't want paint to stick apply some silicone lube. Do it with a Q tip, so you don't spread it where you do want the paint to stick.

In the 80's a buddy of mine used to work the same magic with Vaseline and a Qtip. Saw him do a beautiful two tone paint job on a set of steel wheels with two rattle cans.

Gloss black calipers are subtle. This was using G2 Caliper Paint which is brush-on but the surface levels out as it dries for a sprayed on look. I saw on G2USA website that they ship internationally by removing the aerosol can of brake cleaner from the kit to comply with shipping rules.

The advantage using vaseline is that you can remove it easily, allowing you to paint the surface it was on with a different color. Silicone lube is very hard to remove.
