B58 Had A Long Crank Today... underlying issue possible?
Hey all. Not the most mechanically inclined. My b58 (2nd owner) has about 23k on the clock. Bought it CPO and no chance the last owner did any mods to the car.
Fully stock apart from a JB+ and an AWE axle back that was put on 3 days ago. I have not driven it too much (under 1k miles, maybe even under 500 miles). Today it had a long crank, maybe about 3 - 4 seconds long before starting up. I had just driven about 30 highway miles before getting back in the car. Never any other issues like that. I only ever use Shell 93. The only thing I can think of that could be a voltage issue would be when I removed the negative terminal on the battery, I loosened the bolt way too much and it was a little stubborn getting it back on all the way. I did eventually get it secured and tightened but it didn't "feel" right. The terminal is 100% secure and I think that is just a problem I will need to look at down the road. Apart from that I have no clue. Can't really say if I had bad gas as again I never have driven it consistently as I just moved back home from school. I went straight to a Shell and filled up with 93 in case the gas I had was bad, however I drove nearly 1/2 a tank before I had that long crank experience today. Is this something that just happens and should be brushed off? |

hmmm….it’s pretty hard to say, but with how little you’ve driven it since you bought it low battery voltage is the first thing that comes to my mind. If the battery was significantly discharged from sitting for a long time I’m not sure a 30 mile drive would be sufficient to adequately charge the battery. Or it is possible that it was just a fluke.
