Yep, the Z4, the 5er, the 7er, the F20 1er and the new 6er all have this design. Not surprising that the F30 gets it too.

I don't know about E90 but the E60 to me at least, still looks 'new'. A very successful design in that sense. Interior and exterior. I'm thinking about buying an LCI E61 if the F30 touring isn't impressive and has harsh ride like all E9x.

I'm really trying to like this but it looks too much like the e90 with a better rear and bubble like front. If I drove a current Sedan I would not run out and buy one of these...This i am sure of.

Coming from someone who is new to the BMW fanclub, I think i'm really going to like this car in person. I've never understood why whenever I see a pic of an E90 (lci) it makes me feel "meh"... but when I see one in person it looks so much less sterile, I really love it. I've got a feelin the F30 will have the same effect..

Meh.

This mashing up of seams is a train wreck. Not as bad as the bottom of the A-pillar on the e90, but probably more obvious.

$1,000 says that someone (BMW or otherwise) will figure out how to have an attractive hood line, within the pedestrian safety requirements. This implementation smacks of the original 3rd taillight implementations.

Either Audi is exempt from pedestrian safety requirements, or someone owes me a grand, because their hood line doesn't look like azzzzz.

So, um, like there's this whole part of the world outside of the US. Even the F10 doesn't have standard HIDs in Europe, why would the F30?

Further, from Toyota's website on the new Camry: Projector-beam halogen headlamps - standard feature.

Many of you seem to forget that the 3er's no 1 market Germany and indeed the rest of europe buy their 3er's with the most basic specification.
And even the most basic engine option.

You always ask? Why can the 1er or 320d not come to America?
Because at the Price BMW need to make the car competitive - US BMW buyers will not buy a 1er or 3er in it's most basic form. The Perceptions of BMW in Europe and the US are very different. US buyers would not welcome a base 320d when they have come to accept that BMW is a premium luxury brand.

Don't like the profile. It looks like an E90 but with the hood shape that doesn't quite match the rest of the car.

Its not the height of the hood, its the clearance between the hood and the engine. There has to be a gap of air between the hood and the hard engine underneath, and if you have a big awesome BMW engine under there, you will probably have to put the hood up higher. A wimpy audi engine probably sits well under it

Is it bad that the only thing I'm excited about the F30 is the fact that I get to use one as a loaner soon?

IDK, but it could also be that the Audi's design was approved before the latest regulations kicked in.

FYI, the latest rules require 3 inches of clearance between the bonnet/hood of a car and the engine, hence the bulbous front-ends of pretty much every new BMW.

This could be easlily confused with the e90. The differences are very subtle for someone who doesn't eat BMW at breakfast. The lateral look is almost identical to the e90, the rear looks a bit more toned down compared to the e90 LCI, and the front looks like they tried but they didn't quite succeed.

I think the current A4 was designed before the new pedestrian safety requirements?
